- For Him Who Has Ears to Hear (1977)
For Him Who Has Ears to Hear is the debut album by Christian singer - songwriter Keith Green . It was released on May 20, 1977 by Sparrow Records. Considered to be a landmark album, For Him Who Has Ears to Hear features many songs that would soon be covered by many Christian artists with their interpretations and become classics. The album is produced by Green and Bill Maxwell. The tracks "Your Love Broke Through," a song that Green co-wrote with fellow CCM artist and songwriter Randy Stonehill , "You Put This Love in My Heart" and "He'll Take Care of the Rest" were early Christian radio hits and were his standard Christian pop songs. CCM Magazine ranked this album in the Top 5 at number five in their 2001 book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music . Green also does a cover of Annie Herring's "Easter Song" (originally recorded by 2nd Chapter of Acts featuring Herring) with Green adding an additional verse. In March 1980, the album, along with his second album No Compromise , made its first appearance on Billboard magazine's first ever Top Inspirational Albums chart (renamed Top Christian Albums) and climbed to number 14. - The Sky is Falling (1980)
The Sky is Falling is the fourth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released in 1980 on Solid Rock Records. Larry Norman produced and arranged the album. The album was recorded in 1977, just a year after the release of his critically- acclaimed album Welcome to Paradise , when Stonehill wanted to record a follow-up album but was delayed buy a full three years. Norman was heavily involved in the making of The Sky is Falling , from producing to playing guitars. During that time Stonehill and Norman had a falling out and decided to part ways professionally, so this will serve as the final album under Norman's tutelage. The album's highlights include a re-recording of "Jamey's Blues" as "Jamey's Got the Blues" (originally recorded for his 1973 album Get Me Out of Hollywood ), "The Great American Cure," "Venezuela" and "Counterfeit King." In 1994, The Sky is Falling was reissued on CD featuring the European version with a different track listing than the American version. It contains alternate mixes of "Teen King" and "Counterfeit King" and three bonus tracks. A YouTube link to listen to the albums is posted below this article. - Welcome to Paradise (1976)
Welcome to Paradise is the third studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released in 1976 on Larry Norman's Solid Rock label. Norman produced and arranged the album. Stonehill returned with a proper follow-up to his 1971 debut album Born Twice . His songwriting had always been very strong but now his guitar work was catching up. For many this album was their first exposure to Stonehill and it had strong sales numbers. His opening signature track "King of Hearts" showcases Stonehill's melodic pop style and offers a parable of a lost soul searching for life. "Keep Me Runnin'" is a rock number that describes the emptiness and alienation of lives apart from Christ without tidying everything up with a too-obvious moral or conversion testimony. "Song for Sarah" is a tender ballad and "Lung Cancer" is a humorous look at the posture of teenagers who think they're being countercultural when they yield to the pressures of the tobacco industry. Stonehill also re-recorded the track "Puppet Strings," that he originally recorded for his 1973 release Get Me Out of Hollywood . Welcome to Paradise was named the 13th greatest album in Christian music by CCM Magazine in their 2001 book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music . In 2002, the album was reissued on CD by Larry Norman with five bonus tracks included. A YouTube link to listen to the album is posted below this article. Get Me Out of Hollywood is the second studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released in 1973 on Phillips Records. The album was produced by Jon Miller, Rod Edwards and Roger Hand with album photos taken by Larry Norman. Get Me Out of Hollywood is a rare lost album, due to the fact that it was unreleased for more than 25 years. Stonehill recorded the album in London. It was an attempt to release it as a mainstream album. About ten pressings are rumored to exist. Norman got the rights to the album and reissued it on CD in 1999 on his Solid Rock label with the bonus track "Blind Minstrel." Two songs would later turn up on other Stonehill albums: "Puppet Strings" on Welcome to Paradise and "Jamey's Got the Blues" on The Sky is Falling , originally titled on this album as "Jamey's Blues." - Born Twice (1971)
Born Twice is the debut album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released in 1971 on One Way Records. The album was produced and arranged by Larry Norman. Norman also did the photography. Born Twice cost, at the time, $800 to make and record. Stonehill said of the album that it sounded "like every penny of it." It was backed and financed by American entertainer Pat Boone. Fewer than ten thousand copies were pressed, making it a prized collector's item. The album consists of half a dozen acoustic songs, including an early version of "I Love You" (Stonehill re-recorded two new versions of this track for the 1973 Christian film Time to Run ). The song "Norman's Kitchen" is about Stonehill's conversion after his arrest on drug charges. Norman and Stonehill were washing dishes and Stonehill got a wake-up call after his experience. Norman prayed for Stonehill and he was born again, hence the name of the album. Also included is "I Need You" from the Christian musical Show Me! , from which Stonehill was in the lead role. Born Twice also has live tracks with the band White Light. Stonehill also performs a couple of covers including the Top 5 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Put Your Hand in the Hand" (originally recorded by the Canadian band Ocean) and "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands." The Side Two track "He Is a Friend of Mine" was replaced by the Norman-written holiday track "Christmastime" in later pressings of the album. The 1991 re-pressing of Born Twice came with an extra vinyl of a live album titled Judgment Day at the Speede Mart . It is an otherwise unreleased album consisting entirely of live performances culled from several early 1970's concerts of Stonehill singing mostly Larry Norman songs. It was issued in a normal single slip cover from the "Christmastime" version of Born Twice . A YouTube link to listen to the albums is posted below this article. - Steve Camp
Steven J. Camp (born April 13, 1955) is an American contemporary Christian music artist and pastor. In the tradition of Martin Luther 's Ninety-Five Theses , Camp sent out his own 107 theses on Reformation Day (October 31), 1998, calling for a reformation in contemporary Christian music: calling Christian musicians to make direct, uncompromising music that confronts the world with the message of the scriptures. Born in Wheaton, Illinois , Camp was raised by Christian parents, and by five years of age he had confessed faith in Jesus . This greatly influenced his desire to serve God through his teenage years. As a young Christian, he created a close bond with legendary Christian singer/songwriter Larry Norman , who gave him advice concerning Camp's own singing and songwriting. In addition, he met the late Keith Green , who encouraged him to make a stronger commitment to Jesus and the ministry of music. Camp was divorced from his first wife prior to 2002. He remarried on June 19, 2009. He is unrelated to Jeremy Camp , a fellow Christian rock musician. Camp is now the senior pastor of The Cross Church in Palm City, Florida. Prior to becoming a conference speaker and lecturer, Camp was a popular contemporary Christian music singer-songwriter. In 1977, he signed a recording contract with Myrrh Records , releasing several songs as a solo artist. In 1983, Camp signed a contract with Sparrow Records , with whom he released six successful albums. On his first album, Fire and Ice , Camp paired up with Michele Pillar to sing "Love's Not A Feeling." In 1989, Camp released his 9th studio album, Justice , on which he recorded the AIDS themed song "Do You Feel Their Pain?" After Camp's contract with Sparrow ended in 1992, he signed with Warner Alliance , with whom he released two albums. On his 1993 release Taking Heaven By Storm , Camp teamed up with veteran keyboardist and songwriter Michael Omartian , and together they produced a series of radio hits in a single year, including a contemporary remake of "The Lord's Prayer." Later that same year, he released a worship-themed project titled Mercy in the Wilderness . After a five year absence, Camp returned with Abandoned to God in 1999 and Desiring God in 2002. Camp focused on pastoring his church in Florida, putting music behind. More than 20 years later, Camp returned to music with the release of a new album called Neighbors In an Age of Rage in the fall of 2024.
