Evie (1974)
Evie is the self-titled eight studio and fourth English language album by Christian singer Evie. It was released around May 1974 and it is her first album on Word Records and her American home label throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Evie recorded this album when she was 17 years old. Evie had already established herself as a teenage superstar in Scandinavia with her albums in Norway and Sweden. Recognizing her incredible success overseas and her unique ability to bridge traditional gospel with emerging contemporary pop styles, the Texas-based Word Records—which was the largest Christian record company in the world at the time—offered her a contract to officially introduce her to American audiences after releasing three English language albums on the Majestic Records label in the early 1970s.
She managed her early career with the help of her parents, and her self-titled English debut album with Word Records became an instant bestseller, launching her into Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) superstardom in the United States. Some of the songs Evie sang in her Scandanavian recordings, she recorded them in English for this release such as Larry Norman's "Sweet, Sweet Song of Salvation" and Andraé Crouch's "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power." Evie was produced and arranged by Swedish musician Lennart Sjöholm. Composer and musician Kurt Kaiser wrote some nice words about Evie's official introduction to American audiences on the back album cover liner notes.
