Matters of the Heart is the second studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Bob Bennett. It was originally released in 1982 on Priority Records, a division of CBS Records.
Produced by Jonathan David Brown, Matters of the Heart was considered a masterpiece and showed even more progression in Bennett's songwriting skills. The album opens with the title song, "Matters of the Heart," and closes with the track "Heart of the Matter." The songs reflect various aspects of life. Some of the songs are autobiographical on tracks like "1951" and "A Song About Baseball." "Come and See" and "Mountain Cathedrals" are spiritual songs that focus on the worship of God. Those mentioned songs became Christian radio favorites. CCM Magazine named this album as "Album of the Year" in a year-end issue, even beating out Amy Grant's Age to Age. Despite this accolade, Bennett was never nominated for a Grammy or a Dove Award for Matters of the Heart.
In 2001, Matters of the Heart was ranked at number 65 from CCM Magazine's 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music. Bennett's original record label Priority folded midway in 1982 and then was out of print. The album started charting in 1983 and peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Star Song Records reissued it in 1985 and then Urgent Records reissued it for the first time on CD in 1991.
