The Robe is the third studio album by Christian singer/songwriter/guitarist
Wes King, released on March 23, 1993 by Reunion Records. The album was produced by Phil Naish.
The Robe is a departure from King's "acoustic groove" of his first two albums and bringing in a more modern commercial sound, courtesy of producer Phil Naish, who is best known for producing albums for Steven Curtis Chapman. Considered a breakthrough album, The Robe produced hits like the title track and "I Believe."
The track "Martin Luther" is a tribute to the theologian and father of the Reformation.
On the title song, Christian vocalist Susan Ashton provides harmony vocals and King filmed his first music video. "The Robe" is derived from a sermon by King's mentor and speaker Charles Spurgeon. The Robe charted on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and peaked at number 18. In 1994, King earned nominations for Song of the Year and Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year for "The Robe" and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year for "I Believe" at the 1994 Dove Awards.
