After God's Own Heart (1987)

Updated: Apr 13

After God's Own Heart is the eighth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter

Steve Camp, released in the fall of 1987 on Sparrow Records. The album is produced and arranged by Camp and John Rosasco and mixed by Bill Schnee.

After God's Own Heart is Camp's fourth album on the Sparrow label and is a departure from the pop rock of his previous Sparrow albums and is more adult contemporary. Camp garnered another number one song on the Christian AC chart with the lead single "Whatever You Ask," written by Michele Wagner and Phil McHugh. The song was a multi-format hit also on the Christian CHR and Inspirational charts. Camp records his own version of "Revive Us, Oh Lord," which he co-wrote with fellow CCM artist Carman (who recorded the song on his 1985 album The Champion and became a big Christian radio hit in 1986). The CD version contains a bonus track titled "Hopeless Sinners, Helpless Saints."

The album climbed to the Top 10 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart peaking at number 8. In 1988, Camp earned a Dove Award nomination in their inaugural category of Rock Album of the Year, even though After God's Own Heart is far from being a Christian Rock album.
