Christmas (1989)

Updated: Oct 8, 2023

Christmas is the fifth studio and first Christmas album by Christian singer-songwriter Michael W. Smith, released on September 1, 1989 by Reunion Records.

Smith co-produced the album with composer-arranger Ronn Huff to give it a more classical feel and the album is a mix of some traditional Christmas songs (some instrumental) and new compositions. "Gloria" is a pop contemporary version of "Angels We Have Heard on High," in which Smith did the arrangement. The album climbed to number 3 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and was Gold certified in 2006.

Fellow CCM recording artist and frequent collaborator Amy Grant co-wrote and provided duet vocals on the track "No Eye Had Seen" and Nathan Wadley was the featured soloist, along with the American Boychoir on the track "All is Well."
