Christmas, A Happy Time (1984)
Christmas, A Happy Time is the 22nd studio, 15th English language and second Christmas album by Christian singer Evie, released in October 1984 on Word Records. The album was produced and arranged by Pelle Karlsson.
It follows up her first 1977 Christmas release Come On, Ring Those Bells with mid
1980s Christian pop arrangements, featuring prominent session musicians. Like Come On, Ring Those Bells, it blends traditional Christmas hymns with original tracks like the title song, "Shiloh Has Come" and "A Tiny Little Baby." Christmas, A
Happy Time's centerpiece is "The Christmas Gospel Medley" in which Evie tells the story about the birth of Jesus to the children. It consisted of portions of "Silent Night," then Evie and the children sing "Jesus Name Above All Names" and the Karlsson original "The Name of Jesus."
Christmas, A Happy Time climbed to No. 17 in January 1985 on the Billboard Top Inspirational Albums chart. The album was originally issued on LP and cassette tape when it was first issued. Although it was not available on CD by itself, all eight tracks, minus "The Christmas Gospel Medley," are on Evie's 1987 Christmas compilation release Christmas Memories. A YouTube playlist I compiled on this album is posted below this article.
