Front Yard Luge (Live EP) (1999)
Front Yard Luge is a 1999 live extended play by the American rock band Jars of Clay. It was distributed primarily as a pre-order incentive for their third studio album, If I Left the Zoo, and was reportedly limited to just 5,000 physical copies.
In early 1999, the band spent two weeks brainstorming and songwriting in a secluded studio in Decorah, Iowa. Following a heavy snowfall, the band members took a creative detour, moved their activities outside, and built a mini luge track in the snow in the front yard. While the detour didn't directly assist the writing process, the band credited the fun distraction with inspiring the upbeat, adventurous tone of If I Left the Zoo, and they used the memory to name this exclusive EP.
The live EP contains five cover songs including the Petra classic "Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows,"Swingtown" by The Steve Miller Band, the Brian Wilson-penned "God Only Knows" plus their own compositions "Liquid" (from Jars of Clay) and "The Coffee Song."
