Legacy...Hymns and Faith (2002)

Updated: Sep 21, 2023

Legacy...Hymns and Faith is the fourteenth studio album by Christian singer-songwriter Amy Grant, released on May 21, 2002 by Word Records and A&M Records.

It was her first overtly religious album since 1988's Lead Me On and consists primarily of well-known hymns with a few original songs. Early pressings of the CD are in "double disc" format containing the album and a bonus DVD with a behind the scenes documentary in the studio recording the album. Grant released a follow-up to this album, Rock of Ages...Hymns and Faith in 2005.

Grant reunited with her long-time producer Brown Bannister (his first production appearance since 1992's Home for Christmas). The album is co-produced by country music singer Vince Gill (Grant's second husband since 2000, Grant had divorced her first husband Gary Chapman in 1999). The album's highlight includes a new arrangement of MercyMe's 2001 hit "I Can Only Imagine" retitled "Imagine" coupled with the hymn "Sing the Wondrous Love of Jesus."

Legacy... topped the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and peaked at number 21 on the Top 200 Albums chart and was Gold certified in 2007. Grant won two Dove Awards for Inspirational Album of the Year and the song "The River's Gonna Keep On Rolling" for Country Song of the Year.
