Living in the Comfort Zone (1990)

Living in the Comfort Zone is the 11th studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Scott Wesley Brown. It was released on July 10, 1990 and is the second of three albums Brown released on the Word Records label. Brown co-produced it with Tom Wanca.

Living in the Comfort Zone moves Brown away from the heavily-orchestrated inspirational music as he enters the 1990s with an adult contemporary/pop album. The songs and lyrics focus on Christian social responsibilities, ethics, and challenging believers to step out of their personal complacency, hence the title. The title song serves as a convicting critique of Western Christian complacency and materialism. Rather than offering typical comforting praise, the song directly challenges believers who prioritize financial security, luxury, and easy religion over active faith and global mission work.

The album's lead single "Marvelous" features members of the Christian R&B a cappella sextet Take 6 on backing vocals. The song departs from the album's primary focus on social critique to offer a joyful, celebratory anthem of praise and global evangelism. It was Brown's final Top 5 song on The CCM Update's Christian AC chart peaking at number 2. "Marvelous" and the title song were Brown's final appearances on the Christian CHR chart as both were Top 20 hits.

Living in the Comfort Zone is the only album from the Word/Curb album catalog to be made available on digital platforms, where as the other Word releases To the Ends of the Earth and The Passionate Pursuit are not available, but by way of YouTube links.
