Revival in the Land (1989)

Updated: Apr 15

Revival in the Land is the sixth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Carman, originally released on October 12, 1989 by Benson Records and reissued in 1992 by Sparrow Records.

Officially Carman's first studio album since The Champion, Revival in the Land uses a remarkably cohesive blend of R&B, pop, hip-hop, praise music, and black gospel to express the charismatic energy of his message. Songs include "I Got the Joy" (a vocal duet with Christian minister and gospel singer Carlton Pearson),

"Jesus Is the Light," "God's Got an Army" and two "story songs": "A Witch's Invitation" and the title song. Production duties were handled by Keith Thomas, Phil Naish and Brian Tankersley producing "The Resurrection Rap." Carman also released a long form video on VHS of the same name in mid 1990 featuring concert footage and music videos.

Revival in the Land became Carman's first number one album on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart, topping the chart throughout 1990. On Billboard magazine's year-end edition, Carman was named as the Top Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year. The album and video were both Gold certified and then the video went Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The music video of the title song was named Short Form Music Video of the Year and its video collection won Long Form Music Video for the Year at the 22nd GMA Dove Awards.
