Stacie Orrico is the official self-titled second studio album by American singer - songwriter Stacie Orrico. It was released jointly by ForeFront Records and Virgin Records on March 23, 2003. Orrico was 17 years old when she released this album.
Initially conceived as a contemporary Christian music album, much in style of Orrico's debut album Genuine, the album was titled Say It Again and expected to be released in April 2002. Tedd T. and Michael-Anthony Taylor (credited as Mooki) were the main producers on Say It Again, as seven out of eleven tracks from that album were kept with four of those tracks being re-tweaked including "Bounce Back," which was the first single from Say It Again and was produced by Mark Heimermann. The teen pop/R&B sound, originally on "Bounce Back" from Say It Again, was transformed into an full-on R&B sound produced by hip hop and R&B producer Anthony Dent. Five new songs were recorded to replace the other four songs that were on Say It Again: "Stuck," "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life," "Instead," "I Promise" and "Strong Enough." Orrico worked with other various producers.
The lead single "Stuck," co-produced by Dallas Austin (Michael Jackson, TLC, P!nk, Duran Duran), did well in the Top 10 in several European and Asian markets, but in the United States, it under-performed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart peaking at number 52. It did go to number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Single Sales chart with the Thunderpuss Remix and peaked inside the Top 10 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart. The planned second single, "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life," where on the Hot 100 it performed a little bit better climbing up to number 30, was a Top 10 hit on the Christian charts, where it was number one on Radio & Records Christian CHR chart for five weeks, and it was a Top 40 international hit.
"I Promise" and "I Could Be the One" were sent to Europe as singles. Both tracks were Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom. "Instead" was also released as single but did not chart on the mainstream charts, but did chart on Radio & Records Christian CHR chart making inside the Top 10. Other Christian radio songs charted like "Strong Enough" and "Security." Stacie Orrico peaked at number 59 on the Billboard 200 Albums and topped the Top Christian Albums chart, becoming Orrico's first (and only) album to do so. It was Gold certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) by the end of 2003 for sales of half a million copies. The album did very well in Japan were it peaked at number three on the Japanese Album chart and was certified Double Platinum also selling half a million copies. Stacie Orrico also went Gold in the U.K. and Norway with total worldwide sales of close to 3 million copies.
In 2004, Orrico won three Dove Awards for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year, Short Form Music Video of the Year for "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" and Female Vocalist of the Year at the 36th GMA Dove Awards. That same year, Orrico earned her first Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
The Japanese deluxe edition of Stacie Orrico contains two bonus tracks from Say It Again: "Until I Find You" and "Star of My Story," plus the Thunderpuss Radio Remix of "Stuck." Two videos on DVD were released: There's More To... Stacie Orrico is a promotional DVD featuring Orrico behind the scenes, in the recording studio, photo shoots, performances and more. Live in Japan is a live concert DVD featuring Orrico performing songs from Stacie Orrico and only two songs from her debut album Genuine. Both DVDs contain music videos for "Stuck" and
"(There's Gotta Be) More to Life." Live in Japan was nominated for a Dove Award for Long Form Music Video of the Year in 2006.
