Under the Influence is the third studio album by the Christian R&B/gospel group Anointed, released on October 29, 1996 on Myrrh/Word Records. The album is produced by Christopher Harris and Mark Heimermann.
After the departure of former member Mary Tiller, Anointed was reduced from a quartet to a trio with siblings Steve and Da'dra Crawford and Denise "Nee-C" Walls remaining and continuing the success of their 1995 album The Call with the first single and music video of the title song. It opens and closes the album with two mixes: the acoustic mix and the main mix. Its second single "Waiting in the Wings" draws comparisons with the 1980 Christopher Cross number 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Sailing" with its backdrop of waterfall guitars. The song gave Anointed their first number one song on The CCM Update's Christian AC chart. The track "Get Ready" is a funky/bluesy call to prepare for the Lord's return.
Under the Influence was another best seller, peaking at number 7 on the Top Christian Albums and number 4 on the Top Gospel Albums charts in Billboard magazine. Anointed also makes their first appearance on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart at number 13. In 1997, Anointed won a Dove Award for Urban Recorded Song of the Year for "Under the Influence" and a year later was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.
