Until We Have Wings is a half studio and half live album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill , released on August 15, 1990 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by Mark Heard with Stonehill co-producing. Until We Have Wings features seven new studio tracks covering the first half of the album while the last seven tracks of Stonehill's best songs were recorded live direct to digital from Southern California in the months of February and March of 1990. The studio tracks were recorded at Heard's studio Fingerprint in Los Angeles. The album was released just as Stonehill was celebrating his 20th year as an artist and musician. A companion live concert video was also released on VHS titled One Night in 20 Years featuring Stonehill performing nine songs with special guests including Amy Grant , Gary Chapman , Michael W. Smith , Bryan Duncan and many others. Until We Have Wings peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. It is Stonehill's first chart appearance on the Christian albums chart in three years. It is not available for streaming or download. - Return to Paradise (1989)
Return to Paradise is the eleventh studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill , released on September 19, 1989 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by fellow singer - songwriter Mark Heard with Stonehill co-producing. Return to Paradise is, in some ways, a sequel and a reference to his 1976 album Welcome to Paradise . The album is more acoustic-driven, thanks to Heard's production. Heard capitalizes on the back-to-basics vibe by adding fretless and acoustic basses, pedal and lap steel guitars, fiddles, violas and percussion to the mix as well as his use of the mandolin and accordion. Stonehill's friend and fellow musician Phil Keaggy plays a 12-string guitar on the track "Love Tells No Lies." Stonehill was the first to record Heard's song "Strong Hand of Love." Heard himself would record his version of the track on his 1990 album Dry Bones Dance and was also covered by many artists. Return to Paradise was named as one of the 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music by CCM Magazine in 2001, listing the album at number 76. - Can't Buy a Miracle (1988)
Can't Buy a Miracle is the tenth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill , released on April 26, 1988 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by Dave Perkins. Can't Buy a Miracle continues the rock sound previously heard from his 1986 release The Wild Frontier , but with more diversity. "Brighter Day" has more of a country rock flare featuring Gary Chapman on backing vocals, while "Cold Rock the Groove" sounds like the 1983 Yes track "Owner of a Lonely Heart" meeting the avant-garde synth pop group Art of Noise. That track features guest vocals by Glenn and Wendi Kaiser of the Christian hard rock band Resurrection Band (aka Rez Band). The highlight of the album is the Stonehill-penned ballad "Coming Back Soon," which is an expression of God's devotion for those on earth for whom Christ may seem absent but for whom He will return soon. It also was sung as inspiration for his then-five year old daughter Heather, who told her dad to not forget her when Stonehill was going on a long trip and that he was, as the song's title, "coming back soon." Stonehill and producer - musician Perkins wrote six of the album's nine tracks with Stonehill writing the remaining three songs himself. Other guests include Russ Taff and Phil Keaggy . Can't Buy a Miracle is the first Stonehill album to not chart on the Christian albums chart. NOTE: in a unique album promotion, the LP cover is in two variations: the front cover shows the artist's name and album title along with the throwback font of the Myrrh label and a bar code. The back album cover features what looks like a vintage photo of Stonehill along with the artist's name and album title. The back album cover can also pass as the front album cover, so it works well either way. Track listing All songs written by Randy Stonehill and Dave Perkins, except where noted. 1. It's Now -4:07 2. - The Wild Frontier (1986)
The Wild Frontier is the ninth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill , released on November 24, 1986 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by Dave Perkins. The Wild Frontier is a "true to form" return to rock and roll with this album, reminiscent of his 1970s albums like Welcome to Paradise . The title song was released as the lead single to Christian Rock radio and became a hit. Some of the tracks are very Bruce Springsteen-like with its brand of heartland rock and combined with a couple of ballads. Stonehill and Perkins wrote five songs together with Stonehill writing four by himself and recorded a cover of The Youngbloods' 1969 hit "Get Together" (#5 Billboard Hot 100). Stonehill made music videos for the tracks "Defender" and "The Hope of Glory." The Wild Frontier debuted and peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart in 1987. NOTE: Peter Noone, lead singer of the English pop rock band Herman's Hermits is one of the backing singers on the album. Also providing backing vocals are Tonio K and Gary Chapman . - Love Beyond Reason (1985)
Love Beyond Reason is the eighth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill , released on June 17, 1985 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced and arranged by Barry Miller Kaye with engineering and mixing by Stonehill's friend and folk rock singer - songwriter Mark Heard. The album peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Love Beyond Reason became very successful in the strength of its lead single, "I Could Never Say Goodbye." The track is a vocal duet with popular CCM singer - songwriter Amy Grant . Grant had just released her first mainstream album Unguarded at the time of Stonehill's release, with the duet track and Grant's "Find a Way" both climbing up the Christian radio charts at the same time. "I Could Never Say Goodbye" earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Performance by a Duo or Group. It was Stonehill's only sole Grammy nomination. The rest of Love Beyond Reason is a pop/rock album. Highlights include an uptempo version of "Until Your Love Broke Through," a song Stonehill co-wrote with Jesus Music legend Keith Green back in 1976, "The Gods of Men" with Bryan Duncan providing backing vocals, the title song and "Hymn." To go along with the audio release, Stonehill also put out a collection of music videos on VHS titled Love Beyond Reason - The Video Album with five videos from this album plus "Still Small Voice" from Celebrate This Heartbeat . The cassette and CD versions also contain an extended version of "The Gods of Men." Track listing of the CD Version All songs written by Randy Stonehill, except where noted. 1. - Stonehill (EP) (1985)
Stonehill (stylized as Stone Hill ) is a 1985 extended play by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released independently in the U.K. by the Street Tunes label. When it was originally released, it contained five original songs that were produced by Barry Miller Kaye, who produced Stonehill's previous album Celebrate This Heartbeat and his upcoming release Love Beyond Reason . His Christian label Myrrh Records didn't want it released. Stonehill was reissued on CD in the United States by ChristianDiscs in 2006 containing the original five songs plus two bonus tracks: an alternate recording of "Edge of the World," that Stonehill recorded for his 2002 album of the same name and a live recording of his classic 1971 track "I Love You" from his debut album Born Twice . - Celebrate This Heartbeat (1984)
Celebrate This Heartbeat is the seventh studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill , released on April 25, 1984 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by Barry Miller Kaye. It is the first of two albums that Stonehill and producer Kaye have collaborated on (the other being his next album Love Beyond Reason ), as Stonehill's sound on this album was more pop/rock. The album's highlight is "Who Will Save the Children," a vocal duet featuring fellow musician and friend Phil Keaggy . The track serves as a charity song for Compassion International to help children from poverty, even predating the 1985 charity single " Do Something Now " as performed by the Christian all-star collective The CAUSE. The album liner notes on Celebrate This Heartbeat includes a sign up form to sponsor a child. The other song highlights include the title track and "Still Small Voice." A music video was made for the latter to promote the album and is found in the video collection Love Beyond Reason - The Video Album on VHS. Celebrate This Heartbeat debuted and peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Top Inspirational Albums chart. The album is not available on CD and is not available digitally, although some tracks like the title song and "Who Will Save the Children" are available digitally on compilation albums by Stonehill. - Equator (1983)
Equator is the sixth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill , released on January 21, 1983 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by Terry Scott Taylor. According to Stonehill he wrote on the album sleeve insert, "Just as the equator marks the center of the planet, so is Christ the 'Equator' of humanity...He divides good and evil and can turn darkness into light by the power of His love." The ballad track "Turning Thirty" became a Christian radio hit and also reflective of his family life, including his second wife Sandi and their only daughter Heather. Even though it was not released as a Christian radio single, " Shut De Dó" was a Stonehill signature song and a concert favorite. Many Christian radio stations have played the track with its Jamaican flare percussion and its sing-a-long chorus. In 2006, CCM Magazine named " Shut De Dó" as one of the 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music , listing it at number 49. New Myrrh Records label mate Leslie Phillips is also on the album as one of the backing vocalists on the album's final track "World Without Pain." Equator climbed up to number 7 on the Billboard Top Inspirational Albums chart. The album is not available on CD, however it is available digitally for streaming and download purchasing. - The Sky is Falling (1980)
The Sky is Falling is the fourth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released in 1980 on Solid Rock Records. Larry Norman produced and arranged the album. The album was recorded in 1977, just a year after the release of his critically- acclaimed album Welcome to Paradise , when Stonehill wanted to record a follow-up album but was delayed by a full three years. Norman was heavily involved in the making of The Sky is Falling , from producing to playing guitars. During that time Stonehill and Norman had a falling out and decided to part ways professionally, so this will serve as the final album under Norman's tutelage. Stonehill makes his debut on the Billboard Top Inspirational Albums chart with this release and peaking at number 21. The album's highlights include a re-recording of "Jamey's Blues" as "Jamey's Got the Blues" (originally recorded for his 1973 album Get Me Out of Hollywood ), "The Great American Cure," "Venezuela" and "Counterfeit King." In 1994, The Sky is Falling was reissued on CD featuring the European version with a different track listing than the American version. It contains alternate mixes of "Teen King" and "Counterfeit King" and three bonus tracks. A YouTube link to listen to the albums is posted below this article. - Welcome to Paradise (1976)
Welcome to Paradise is the third studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released in 1976 on Larry Norman's Solid Rock label. Norman produced and arranged the album. Stonehill returned with a proper follow-up to his 1971 debut album Born Twice . His songwriting had always been very strong but now his guitar work was catching up. For many this album was their first exposure to Stonehill and it had strong sales numbers. His opening signature track "King of Hearts" showcases Stonehill's melodic pop style and offers a parable of a lost soul searching for life. "Keep Me Runnin'" is a rock number that describes the emptiness and alienation of lives apart from Christ without tidying everything up with a too-obvious moral or conversion testimony. "Song for Sarah" is a tender ballad and "Lung Cancer" is a humorous look at the posture of teenagers who think they're being countercultural when they yield to the pressures of the tobacco industry. Stonehill also re-recorded the track "Puppet Strings," that he originally recorded for his 1973 release Get Me Out of Hollywood . Welcome to Paradise was named the 13th greatest album in Christian music by CCM Magazine in their 2001 book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music . In 2002, the album was reissued on CD by Larry Norman with five bonus tracks included. A YouTube link to listen to the album is posted below this article. - Get Me Out of Hollywood (1973)
Get Me Out of Hollywood is the second studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released in 1973 on Phillips Records. The album was produced by Jon Miller, Rod Edwards and Roger Hand with album photos taken by Larry Norman. Get Me Out of Hollywood is a rare lost album, due to the fact that it was unreleased for more than 25 years. Stonehill recorded the album in London. It was an attempt to release it as a mainstream album. About ten pressings are rumored to exist. Norman got the rights to the album and reissued it on CD in 1999 on his Solid Rock label with the bonus track "Blind Minstrel." Two songs would later turn up on other Stonehill albums: "Puppet Strings" on Welcome to Paradise and "Jamey's Got the Blues" on The Sky is Falling , originally titled on this album as "Jamey's Blues." - Born Twice (1971)
Born Twice is the debut album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill . It was released in 1971 on One Way Records. The album was produced and arranged by Larry Norman. Norman also did the photography. Born Twice cost, at the time, $800 to make and record. Stonehill said of the album that it sounded "like every penny of it." It was backed and financed by American entertainer Pat Boone. Fewer than ten thousand copies were pressed, making it a prized collector's item. The album consists of half a dozen acoustic songs, including an early version of "I Love You" (Stonehill re-recorded two new versions of this track for the 1973 Christian film Time to Run ). The song "Norman's Kitchen" is about Stonehill's conversion after his arrest on drug charges. Norman and Stonehill were washing dishes and Stonehill got a wake-up call after his experience. Norman prayed for Stonehill and he was born again, hence the name of the album. Also included is "I Need You" from the Christian musical Show Me! , from which Stonehill was in the lead role. Born Twice also has live tracks with the band White Light. Stonehill also performs a couple of covers including the Top 5 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Put Your Hand in the Hand" (originally recorded by the Canadian band Ocean) and "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands." The Side Two track "He Is a Friend of Mine" was replaced by the Norman-written holiday track "Christmastime" in later pressings of the album. The 1991 re-pressing of Born Twice came with an extra vinyl of a live album titled Judgment Day at the Speede Mart . It is an otherwise unreleased album consisting entirely of live performances culled from several early 1970's concerts of Stonehill singing mostly Larry Norman songs. It was issued in a normal single slip cover from the "Christmastime" version of Born Twice . A YouTube link to listen to the albums is posted below this article.
