Awesome God: A Tribute to Rich Mullins is a various artists compilation project album released on November 10, 1998 by Reunion Records.
Awesome God is a tribute album to the late singer and songwriter Rich Mullins and it was released four months after the Myrrh/Word Records posthumous release The Jesus Record, which also featured artists recording their versions of Mullins' final songs. Three of the artists that recorded on The Jesus Record are on this album: Michael W. Smith ("Awesome God"), Ashley Cleveland ("I See You") and Amy Grant ("Hold Me Jesus"). Smith recorded "Awesome God," originally with the verses and chorus on this recording. But it was the song's chorus that will be the focal point when Smith records it for his 2001 live release Worship.
The rest of the artists taking part are Gary Chapman ("Elijah"), Billy Sprague ("A Place to Stand"), DC Talk's Kevin Max ("Save Me"), Carolyn Arends ("Jacob and 2 Women"), Caedmon's Call ("Step by Step"), Chris Rice ("Calling Out Your Name") and Billy Crockett ("Verge of a Miracle"). Reed Arvin, who has produced many of Mullins' albums, produced seven of the album's eleven tracks with Arvin co-producing Jars of Clay's cover of "If I Stand." Awesome God peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart.
