Worship is a live album by Christian singer - songwriter Michael W. Smith. Released on September 11, 2001 by Reunion Records, it was released the same day as the World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon were attacked and destroyed and has taken thousands of lives.
Worship was recorded live at the Carpenter's House Church in Lakeland, Florida and features a choir and band to give this recording a live worship experience and features contemporary worship songs and is part of the modern worship movement. The album also contains two studio songs: "Purified" and "Above All," which was released as the lead single to Christian radio. In 2002, Smith released a follow-up album Worship Again and a DVD comprising selections from both albums. Smith and Tom Laune produced the album.
Smith won three Doves Awards for Artist of the Year, Praise and Worship Album of the Year and Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year for "Above All." The album also won Recorded Music Packaging given to the art directors and designers of the album cover. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. Worship topped the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and peaked at number 20 on the Top 200 Albums chart. The album was certified Gold in 2001 and Double Platinum in 2010. It has sold more than two million copies, giving Smith his first multi-platinum album.
