Gold/Oro (1998)
Gold is the eight studio album by American singer - songwriter Crystal Lewis. It was released jointly by Metro One and Myrrh/Word Records with distribution by Word Entertainment on March 3, 1998.
Gold continued the formulaic success of her 1996 breakthrough release Beauty for Ashes with more blends of pop, soul and vocal gospel stylings. It was produced once again by Brian Ray and Dan Posthuma. The album's main highlight, "Lord I Believe in You," served as a heartfelt declaration of unwavering faith and trust in God's truth. "Lean On Me" is a song written by Gospel artist Kirk Franklin, that Lewis and Franklin, along with R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige and U2 lead singer Bono originally recorded for Franklin's album The Nu Nation Project and was even Grammy nominated for Song of the Year and Best R&R Performance by a Duo or Group (thus earning Lewis her first Grammy nomination). Some Christian and Gospel radio stations refused to play it. Then Lewis re-recorded a solo version with Franklin intact and did well on Christian radio. The song was added as a bonus track on the reissue of Gold in 1999.
Gold charted and peaked on the following Billboard album charts:
-No. 5 Top Christian Albums
-No. 12 Heatseekers Albums
-No. 188 Billboard 200
In 1999, Lewis won a Dove Award in a tie for Spanish Language Album of the Year for Oro (the Spanish version of Gold) along with Sandi Patty with her Spanish release Libertad me das at the 30th GMA Dove Awards.
