Healing Rain (2004)

Updated: Oct 8, 2023

Healing Rain is the thirteenth studio album by Christian singer -songwriter Michael W. Smith, released on October 26, 2004 by Reunion Records.

It is Smith's first full-length CCM album since 1999's This Is Your Time and a departure from his previous two live worship albums. The title song which Smith co-wrote with Martin Smith of the English Christian rock band Delirious? was released as the lead single and music video. The album also features songwriting contributions by long-time collaborator Wayne Kirkpatrick, Wes King, Canadian singer -songwriter Dan Hill and American pop folk singer -songwriter Paul Simon on Smith's cover of the Simon & Garfunkel 1970 #1 Billboard Hot 100 classic "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Charlie Peacock's son Sam Ashworth produced the track "I Am Love" and did additional production on "We Can't Wait Any Longer." Smith and Matt Bronleewe produced Healing Rain. Some of the album's tracks were recorded at George Lucas' Skywalker Sound, located in Marin County, California, best known for the Star Wars flim franchise.

Smith was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album for Healing Rain at the 48th Grammy Awards and was nominated for 5 Dove Awards including Artist of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year for Healing Rain and the title song for Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year, Song of the Year and Worship Song of the Year at the 36th GMA Dove Awards. The album debuted and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums and topped the Top Christian Albums chart. Healing Rain was Gold certified in 2005.

Healing Rain was reissued as a DualDisc in 2005. The DVD side features the entire album in PCM Stereo and 5.1 Digital Surround Sound, The Stories Behind Healing Rain, music videos for the title song and "Here I Am" and a trailer for Smith's upcoming motion picture debut The Second Chance.
