Shine: The Hits (2000)

Updated: Apr 13

Shine: The Hits is an official compilation album by the Australian Christian rock band Newsboys, released on October 24, 2000 by Sparrow Records. This collection spanned the band's first ten years from 1988 to 1998. Exclusive to the set were three new songs ("Joy," "Who?" and "Praises"), an update of their 1996 hit "God Is Not a Secret," featuring DC Talk's TobyMac, a remix of their hit "Shine," and an eight-minute "Mega-Mix" of several of their biggest hits. Also included is an extended version of "I'm Not Ashamed," which differs from the original album version. There are no songs from their latest album at the time, Love Liberty Disco, represented. Neither are songs from their early 1990s albums Hell Is For Wimps and Boys Will Be Boyz. The new track "Joy" gave the band their first number one song on the Christian AC chart.

Shine: The Hits peaked at number 5 on the Top Christian Albums and number 122 on the Top 200 Albums charts in Billboard magazine. The collection was Gold certified in 2003 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Shine: The Hits Live One Night in Pennsylvania was a re-release of their 1998 VHS concert video Newsboys Live One Night in Pennsylvania on DVD. It was recorded during the Step Up to the Microphone Tour. The DVD also contains four music videos: "Entertaining Angels," "Take Me to Your Leader," "Shine" and "I Cannot Get You Out of My System."
