Songs From the Heart (1984)

Songs From the Heart is the sixth studio album by Christian singer Sandi Patty, originally released on August 2, 1984 by Impact/Benson Records and re-issued by Word Records in 1990. Produced by Greg Nelson with Patty co-producing.


The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Performance, Female for Songs From the Heart at the 27th Grammy Awards. Patty won 3 Dove Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, Artist of the Year and Inspirational Album of the Year at the 16th GMA Dove Awards in 1985. The track (and music video) "Via Dolorosa" was named Song of the Year in 1986, awarded to its writers Billy Sprague and Niles Borop. "Via Dolorosa" was ranked at number 56 by CCM Magazine in their 2006 book The 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music. A then-unknown Steven Curtis Chapman co-wrote the opening track "Give Him the Glory."


Songs From the Heart peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart in 1985 and in 1987 was Gold certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of 500,000 copies.


NOTE: before the trio were known as First Call, vocalists Marty McCall, Bonnie Keen and Melodie Tunney provided guest vocals on the track "Pour on the Power."
