It is the first and only album to feature British - Australian CCM singer Paul Colman playing lead guitar and vocals and the last album with Phil Joel as a member until 2019's United album. Thrive is the ninth studio by the Australian Christian rock band Newsboys , released on March 26, 2002 by Sparrow Records. Thrive saw the return of Steve Taylor , who hasn't co-produced a full-length Newsboys album since Take Me to Your Leader (1996), although he was involved in songwriting on two tracks on their next album Step Up to the Microphone (1998) and the new tracks on their "greatest hits" album Shine: The Hits (2000). Taylor was not involved in the making of their 1999 release Love Liberty Disco . The album saw the band return to their pop rock sound and was preceded by the first single, the praise and worship anthem, "It Is You." The song topped both the Christian CHR and Christian AC charts on the Radio & Records CCM Update section. It is the only track Joe Baldridge co-produced with Peter Furler, while Furler and Taylor produced the rest of the album. Their next single "Million Pieces (Kissing Your Cares Goodbye)" (aided by a music video) also topped both R&R 's Christian CHR and Christian AC charts. Their Christian Rock singles "John Woo" (a somewhat tongue-and-cheek tribute to the action film director of the same name) and "The Fad of the Land" both made the Top 10 on that chart. Thrive debuted and peaked at number 3 on the Top Christian Albums and number 38 on the Billboard 200 Albums charts. Newsboys also released a live concert video on DVD, Thrive: From the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum . It was available in the Limited Edition of Thrive in 2005 as a combo. • Going Public (1994)

Going Public is the fifth studio album by the Australian Christian rock band Newsboys , released on July 26, 1994 by Star Song Records. Peter Furler and Steve Taylor once again produced the album and continued the success from their 1992 album Not Ashamed . Going Public produced their second number one hit and music video with "Shine." Three more number one hits followed on the Christian CHR chart with "Spirit Thing," "Real Good Thing" and "Truth and Consequences." The album was recently included as the first in a series of influential Christian albums in Blaze magazine's Blast from the Past section, saying that modern Christian artists owe a lot to the path this album created, because it "...showed music from a Godly perspective could sound extremely catchy, have lyrics that were honest and still glorify God." In 2001, Going Public was named by CCM Magazine as one of The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music , ranking at number 70 and in 2006, "Shine" as one of The 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music , at number 9. Newsboys' lead singer John James sings lead on three songs with Furler singing lead on the majority of the album and both James and Furler singing lead on the track "Be Still." The band added new members with Jody Davis on electric guitar, Duncan Phillips on keyboards (replacing Corey Pryor), Kevin Mills on bass guitar (replacing Sean Taylor, and is the only album he played on) and Jeff Frankenstein, who joined the band during the final recording stages of the album, and didn't play on the tracks, but is still mentioned in the liner notes and went on tour with the band. Phillips, Davis and Frankenstein would be mainstays throughout the rest of the 1990s, so the line-up, for a time, became stable. Going Public peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and in 1997, was certified Gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for sales of half a million copies. In 1995, Newsboys were nominated for four Dove Awards including Group of the Year and winning two for Rock Album of the Year and "Shine" was named Rock Recorded Song of the Year and in 1996 was nominated for the top prize of Song of the Year. Also in 1995, the band earned their second Grammy nomination for Best Rock Gospel Album. NOTE: future member Phil Joel appeared on the "Shine" music video in a brief cameo. • Not Ashamed (1992)

Not Ashamed is the fourth studio album by the Australian Christian rock band Newsboys , released on September 29, 1992 by Star Song Records. The album was Newsboys' first commercially successful album, with "I'm Not Ashamed" becoming a hit on Christian radio. With this album, producer Steve Taylor started co-writing many of the band's songs with Peter Furler , who also began sharing lead vocal duties with then-primary vocalist John James. "I'm Not Ashamed" topped The CCM Update 's Christian CHR chart for three weeks, becoming their first number one hit. Christian AC radio also gave Newsboys some airplay with their next single "Where You Belong/Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" giving them their first Top 10 hit there. Other multi-format songs followed such as "Strong Love" (Christian AC), "Upon This Rock" (Christian CHR) and "I Cannot Get You Out of My System" (Christian Rock). Not Ashamed 's sound is a mix of some alternative rock and Europop, two very popular radio formats common to mainstream radio in the 1990s. Newsboys make their first chart appearance in Billboard magazine as Not Ashamed peaked at number 11 on the Top Christian Albums chart. In 1993, the band earned their first Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Gospel Album and in 1994, their music video of "I Cannot Get You Out of My System" was nominated for a Dove Award for Short Form Music Video of the Year. Later in 1993, Newsboys released a VHS of their music videos from Not Ashamed featuring four music videos, and, for the second time, "Simple Man" from their 1990 album Hell Is For Wimps . Newsboys were a four-piece band once again as Vernon Bishop left the band, but has contributed as a co-writer on "I Cannot Get You Out of My System." Additional musicians included Dave Perkins on electric guitar, Phil Maderia on the B-3 organ, John Painter playing bass guitar on four tracks and Vicki Hampton on backing vocals among others. Newsboys covers DeGarmo & Key 's "Boycott Hell" with producer Taylor adding a rap verse. The insert sleeve left a humorous note: "With apologies to DeGarmo & Key."
