- Freedom (2009) (Mandisa album)
Freedom is the third studio album by Christian singer Mandisa , released on March 24, 2009 by Sparrow Records. Production duties were done by Christopher Stevens and Brown Bannister. Released as the proper follow-up to her 2007 debut release True Beauty , Freedom continues her mix of gospel, R&B and pop. The album was preceded by the lead single "My Deliverer." It was released to Christian radio and digital formats in early 2009. The song is about someone who was helpless, and was watching, waiting, praying, staying down on his/her knees waiting for the Lord to rescue him/her. It became an immediate hit and climbed to the Top 10 on the Billboard Christian radio charts. Mandisa filmed a music video for the second single "He Is With You" and she covers another Mary Mary track "Dance, Dance, Dance." The track "The Definition of Me" is a collaboration duet with Mandisa and Blanca Reyes (known professionally as Blanca) of the Christian hip hop group Group 1 Crew. Freedom debuted and peaked at number 4 on the Top Christian Albums and at number 83 on the Top 200 Albums charts in Billboard magazine. - True Beauty (2007)
True Beauty is the official debut album by Christian singer Mandisa . It was released on July 31, 2007 by Sparrow Records. True Beauty is a diverse mix of pop, R&B and gospel. It debuted at the top of Billboard magazine's Top Christian Albums chart and peaked at number 43 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Mandisa worked with five producers and various songwriters. The lead single "Only the World" became her first Top 10 hit on the Christian radio charts and was her only number one single on Billboard 's Hot Single Sales chart. "God Speaking" and "Voice of a Savior" were her next further singles. "Oh, My Lord" features the Fisk Jubilee Singers, where Mandisa was once a member. She also covers the Mary Mary 2000 R&B gospel hit "Shackles (Praise You)." Mandisa performed "Shackles" on American Idol during its theme night of 21st century hits and was safe and made it into the Top 10. She was eliminated the following week coming in ninth place. The title of the album, as well as the title song, was inspired from the comments about Mandisa's weight and size and it drew the ire of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA), especially comments from American Idol judge Simon Cowell when she auditioned in 2006. Mandisa has since forgiven Cowell when he apologized about his comments. She co-wrote the title song with CCM singer - songwriter Cindy Morgan . - CeCe Winans (2001)
CeCe Winans is the self-titled fifth studio album by Christian gospel singer CeCe Winans , released on June 19, 2001 by WellSpring Gospel and Sparrow Records. Brown Bannister produced a majority of the album along with co-producers Tommy Sims and Robbie Buchanan. The album is more like her 1998 album Everlasting Love with a mixture of pop, R&B, and hip hop. CeCe Winans is not only musically diverse but offers hard-hitting messages. The song "It's Gonna Get Better" was written with teen suicide prevention programs in mind, while Cece covers her brothers The Winans ' track "Bring Back the Days of Yea and Nay," a duet with brother and member Marvin Winans, challenges parents to take responsibility for training their children. A definite highlight on the album is the song "Looking Back at You." It is an inspirational track, leaning toward a ballad, that speaks of God's unfailing and unconditional love. Christian hip hop duo GRITS are featured rappers on the track "Anybody Wanna Pray." Latin singer - songwriter Marc Anthony co-wrote the track "No One." The album has charted on the following Billboard album charts: -#2 Top Gospel Albums -#2 Top Christian Albums -#48 Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums -#116 Billboard 200 Albums CeCe Winans was certified Gold in 2003 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
