Susan Ashton (1993)

Susan Ashton is the self-titled third studio album by Christian singer Susan

Ashton, released on November 9, 1993 by Sparrow Records. The album was produced by Wayne Kirkpatrick with Brown Bannister serving as executive producer.

Susan Ashton produced two more No. 1 Christian AC hits: "Waiting For Your Love to Come Down" and "Remember Not." The latter track features Ashley Cleveland on harmony vocals on the bridge. The album opens with a seven and a half minute track (and further single) "Summer Solstice" and features Out of the Grey's (and future collaborator) Christine Denté on backing vocals. Producer Kirkpatrick wrote or co-wrote nine of the album's tracks and it features musicians like Kirkpatrick, Gordon Kennedy, Jimmie Lee Sloas, Steve Brewster, Carl Marsh and Terry McMillan among others. During that time period, Ashton was married to Christian music producer and songwriter John David (or J.D.) Cunningham. Cunningham provided harmony vocals on the final track "A Rose Is A Rose."

Susan Ashton debuted at No. 9 in November 1993 and peaked at No. 3 in February 1994 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. In 1994, Ashton earned her second Dove Award nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year.
