The Word: Recapturing the Imagination is the eleventh studio album by Christian
singer/songwriter/author Michael Card, released on August 10, 1992 by Sparrow Records. The album was produced by Phil Naish.
The Word is the third and final volume of a three-album trilogy based on songs from the Old Testament of the Bible titled The Ancient Faith. On this release, it focuses on the prophets in the Old Testament from Isaiah to Malachi and even the unique perspective on Hosea's unfaithful wife in "Song of Gomer" (later retitled "Gomer's Song"). Musical guests on The Word include Out of the Grey's
Christine Denté providing backing vocals on the tracks "Recapture Me" and "The Kingdom," Christian vocalist Trace Balin providing backing vocals on "The Prophet" and "Who Can Abide?" and Steve Green singing in quartet with Card and vocalists John Mohr and David Green on "Will You Not Listen?"
The Word was Card's highest charting album to date, peaking at number 4 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Card made his first music video with the lead single "So Many Books..."
The Word: Recapturing the Imagination was repacked, along with The Beginning and The Way of Wisdom, into a 2-CD boxed set titled The Ancient Faith.
