  • Between the Glory and the Flame (1981)

Between the Glory and the Flame is the fifth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill. It was released on August 20, 1981 by Myrrh/Word Records. Stonehill co-produced the album with Terry Scott Taylor. Starting with this release, Stonehill began a decade-long association at Word Records on the Myrrh label. It was released after his fallout with Larry Norman, plus the release of his previous album The Sky is Falling and divorcing his first wife Sara Finch. Stonehill has since been remarried to his second wife Sandy Warner. Stonehill started work on this album with Terry Scott Taylor co- producing. Taylor's band Daniel Amos played throughout the entire album, along with Norman's protégé Tom Howard also playing on keyboards. The result is a tight band performing Stonehill's songs in the studio, giving a much more polished sound than we were used to getting from him up to this point. The title song "The Glory and the Flame" was released to Christian radio where it became his first Top 10 hit. The song "Die Young" is an example of Stonehill's cynical but honest approach, calling out the typical Western lifestyle centered around short term thinking. It was one of Stonehill's earliest music videos. His combination of humor and truth-telling was present throughout his career. Stonehill re-records the track "Letter to My Family," that was originally recorded during The Sky is Falling sessions but ended up as a CD bonus track on the 1994 reissue of that album. Howard handles the orchestral arrangements on the track. Between the Glory and the Flame debuted and peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Top Inspirational Albums chart. The album has not been released on CD but it was made available on digital platforms in 2026. Track listing All songs written by Randy Stonehill, except where noted. 1. • Soldiers Again (1989)

Soldiers Again is the second collaborative album by musicians and songwriters Dallas Holm, Tim Sheppard and Phil Johnson, known collectively as Holm, Sheppard, Johnson. It was released on October 23, 1989 by DaySpring/Word Records. The album was produced by Neal Joseph. Released in between albums by the individuals, Holm, Sheppard and Johnson had to wait nearly eight years to collaborate on a second album since their first self-titled album was released in 1981. At the time, they were all under contract to Greentree Records (Benson Records subsidiary label) so there were no contractual issues to work out. They had to wait until 1989 to put out a second album, as along the way, they were under contract to different record companies (Holm was on Word Records, while Sheppard and Johnson were both on Benson) and this can cause insurmountable legal issues. In 1989, none of them were under a contract so they were able to record a follow up album. Soldiers Again featured the Top 5 Christian AC hit "Feel Every Heartbeat." The title song also did well on Christian radio. The album is now available on streaming formats as of July 2026, after more than 35 years after its original release. Track listing 1. Feel Every Heartbeat (Tim Sheppard) -4:27 2. Give Me This Water (Tim Sheppard, Phil Johnson) -4:32 3. Fighter (Dallas Holm) -3:15 4. Standin' There (Tim Sheppard) -4:02 5. • Holm, Sheppard, Johnson (1981)

Holm, Sheppard, Johnson is the first collaborative album by musicians and songwriters Dallas Holm, Tim Sheppard and Phil Johnson. It was released on August 31, 1981 by Greentree/Benson Records. It was produced by the trio themselves. It is Holm's first collaboration album in 15 years since his debut collaborative album Just a Closer Walk with Phil Eksted and Don Moore in 1966 and his first album outside of Praise, but it is Holm's 16th release overall. It is also Sheppard and Johnson's first time collaborating with Holm in a recorded setting since Johnson is known for producing Holm's albums in the past. Each member has contributed songwriting on this project. The track "Drawin' From the Well" was the trio's first Top 5 hit peaking at number 3 on the Christian AC radio chart. Holm, Sheppard, Johnson peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Top Inspirational Albums chart in early 1982. The trio would not make another album until 1989 with their second release Soldiers Again. • Bob Carlisle

Robert Mason "Bob" Carlisle (born September 29, 1956 in Santa Ana, California) is an American Contemporary Christian music singer and songwriter. Carlisle has been in bands Good News and then Psalm 150 with Randy Thomas and Sam Scott in the mid 1970s. In the 1980s, Carlisle was a member of the short-lived band Billy Thermal with songwriter Billy Steinberg. Carlisle has also done some session singing work for mainstream acts like Barry Manilow, Pat Benatar, Poison and REO Speedwagon. After Thomas' previous band Sweet Comfort Band broke up in 1984, Carlisle joined Thomas and Scott, along with Matthew Chapman and Jim Erickson to form the Christian rock band Allies . Allies released six albums from 1985 to 1992. It was from their third album, Shoulder to Shoulder , that Carlisle and Thomas developed a songwriting partnership. Carlisle and Thomas wrote the number one country hit "Why'd You Come in Here Lookin' Like That" for Dolly Parton on her 1989 album White Limozeen . After Allies disbanded, Carlisle went solo to continue on making music and songwriting. His first self-titled solo album was released in 1993, followed by his second album The Hope of a Man , both on Sparrow Records. In 1996, Carlisle signed with Diadem Music Group and released Shades of Grace . The album was then re-titled Butterfly Kisses (Shade of Grace) due to the success of the track "Butterfly Kisses." Carlisle co-wrote the song with Thomas for his daughter Brooke's 16 birthday and it became an immediate hit topping the Billboard AC chart and having a number one album on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Carlisle and Thomas won both Grammy and Dove Awards for the song. Carlisle's next album Stories From the Heart was continuing the success of "Butterfly Kisses" with the father-son track "Father's Love." The song was featured in the 1998 motion picture and soundtrack album Jack Frost . His final solo album Nothing But the Truth was released in 2000. After that album, Carlisle walked away from recording and touring to spend more time with his family. Carlisle did reunite and reformed with his band Allies and the band have done some occasional concerts throughout the 2000s and 2010s. • Allies

Allies was a Christian rock band formed in 1984 by former Sweet Comfort Band member Randy Thomas by bringing in members of two of his former acts: he had been with Bob Carlisle and Jim Erickson in Psalm 150 and was also at one time in the band Sonrise with Sam Scott and Matthew Chapman (Scott was also part of Psalm 150 though not at the same time as Thomas). After the final album Perfect Timing by Sweet Comfort Band was released featuring Thomas and future solo artist - songwriter Bryan Duncan , Allies, with Thomas, Carlisle, Erickson, Scott and Chapman, was formed and was signed to Light Records, even before the group recorded a demo. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1985 and the band took the name at face value as the group appeared on the album jacket cover in military fatigues. Their second album, Virtues , followed a year later in 1986. Both albums were hurt by image-marketing that tried to capitalize on the spiritual warfare fad by presenting the group in paramilitary outfits. Allies left Light Records after Virtues and at the same time Smith left the group. They signed with Word Records in 1987 and released Shoulder to Shoulder as a four-piece band. Allies released their next album Long Way From Paradise in 1989. It would be their most successful album and critically acclaimed. CCM Magazine listed the album as one of the 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music in 2001. Two more albums were released with The River and Man With a Mission . After Man With a Mission was released, Allies disbanded in 1992. Carlisle went on to have a successful solo career and had a hit song with "Butterfly Kisses" in 1997, which he co-wrote with Thomas. Also in 1997, Thomas formed the Christian rock duo Identical Strangers with vocalist Andy Denton and released only one album together. • Heart & Soul (1995)

Heart & Soul is the eighth and final studio album by the Christian gospel vocal group The Winans , released on October 24, 1995 by Qwest/Warner Bros. Records and Warner Alliance Records. Two years after their previous album All Out , The Winans return with this release and features a more mature adult contemporary sound and yet still fresh with R&B touches and more gospel than the mainstream sounds of All Out and Return  (1990) . Other than younger sibling BeBe Winans providing backing vocals on the track "Count It All Joy," there are no guest artists or musicians like the previous albums did and was once again executive produced by Quincy Jones and Barry Hankerson and each track was produced by various musicians and producers. The Winans also recorded an updated version of "The Question Is," which they originally recorded for their 1981 debut album Introducing The Winans .
