  • Transform (2000)

Transform is the sixth studio album by Australian Christian singer - songwriter Rebecca St. James, released on October 24, 2000 by ForeFront Records. Like her previous albums, St. James co-wrote the majority of the album, with the exceptions of "One" and "In Me." Transform has a more electronic drive to the album. Songs such as "For the Love of God" and "Merciful" are rock-driven songs backed by string arrangements, while "Reborn" is a dance-groove track. The song "Wait for Me," a track about sexual purity, was solely written by St. James. It has become one of her staple songs, being featured on every compilation album released by the singer to date. St. James talked about the song, saying: "The idea for this song came from letters that I have written to my future husband, that I will one day give to him. I sing it not just to him but on behalf of young women today, encouraging the future husbands of our generation to stay sexually pure, to wait for us." To promote the song "Wait for Me" as a radio single, St. James released the book Wait for Me: Rediscovering the Joy of Purity in Romance, which went on to sell over 100,000 copies and spawn a journal and study guide. The song and book promotes sexual abstinence before marriage, and St. James has since become a major spokesperson for the subject. Tedd T., who has producer St. James' previous albums God, Christmas and Pray, produced two songs "Universe" and "Wait for Me," with Matt Bronleewe producing a majority of the album. Dann Haff produced the songs "One" and "In Me" and Pete Kipley produced the song "My Hope." Transform peaked at number 7 on the Heatseekers Albums, number 14 on the Top Christian Albums and number 166 on the Top 200 Albums charts in Billboard magazine. In 2002, St. James was nominated in five categories for Song of the Year for the song "Wait for Me," Modern Rock/Alternative Recorded Song of the Year for "For the Love of God," Rap/Hip Hop/Dance Recorded Song of the Year for "Reborn," Short Form Music Video for "Reborn" and Female Vocalist of the Year at the 33rd GMA Dove Awards. • Petra

Petra is an American music group regarded as a pioneer of the Christian rock and contemporary Christian music genres and was, for many years, regarded as the "world's most popular Christian rock band." Formed in 1972 and founded by the band's guitarist and principal songwriter Bob Hartman, the band took its name from the Greek word for "rock." Though it disbanded formally in 2006, incarnations have played reunion shows in the years since and released two albums in November 2010, and in November 2017. In 2013, it reformed with a new drummer, Cristian Borneo, and recorded a new song titled "Holy is Your Name," before going back on tour. With a style initially similar to The Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Petra's sound evolved into a more energetic, driving rock sound in the early 1980s akin to Foreigner, Styx and Journey. Throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s, Petra was one of the world's most popular Christian rock bands, with each of its albums during that period selling hundreds of thousands of copies while the band sold-out arenas and regularly placed songs at the top of Christian radio charts. With its lyrics, music and style, Petra influenced numerous other artists at a time when Christian rock experienced strong opposition from many conservative pastors and churches. In more than three decades, the band experienced numerous lineup changes yet released more than 20 albums, two Spanish-language albums and three live albums, selling nearly 10 million records, winning four Grammy Awards and ten Dove Awards. Their concerts rivaled that of Amy Grant's in popularity among Christian audiences. Petra was the first rock band inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the first Christian band whose memorabilia was included in the Hard Rock Cafe restaurant chain. The album is produced by John and Dino Elefante with Bob Hartman as executive producer. This will be Petra's final album to be released on Word Records after being on the label for more than 10 years. Double Take features ten new acoustic arrangements of classic Petra songs and two new songs "Breathe In" and "The Longing." The song "Breathe In" is written and performed by guitarist Pete Orta alone. This is the only album to feature Trent Thomason on keyboards. The new arrangements are more modern and acoustic-oriented. According to lead singer John Schlitt, the purpose of the record is "not to compete. It's to reintroduce to a generation that never heard any of these songs." Schlitt also said that the songs were "designed" to be played on radio. Double Take peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Petra won their fourth and final Grammy Award (their first win since 1993's Wake-Up Call) for Best Rock Gospel Album at the 43rd Grammy Awards and was nominate for a Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year at the 32nd GMA Dove Awards. • Petra Praise 2: We Need Jesus (1997)

Petra Praise 2: We Need Jesus is the sixteenth studio album by the Christian rock band Petra, released on February 18, 1997 by Word Records. Petra Praise 2 is the second praise album and follow up to 1989's Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out. The album was released amidst some major line-up changes in the band, and it features contributions of several musicians. It's the first album to feature Lonnie Chapin on bass guitar, who would become the band's full-time bassist until 2001. The music is a mixture of traditional and original praise songs with a rock style. It is considered to be more diverse musically than the band's first, straight forward hard rock, praise album. Most of the original songs were penned by band founder Bob Hartman, except for the song "Song of Moses," which was written by former Petra keyboardist Jim Cooper and former White Heart guitarist Brian Wooten. The title song is originally a cover from a 1991 various artists album Portrait of a Spirit featuring artists that were on the Pakaderm label that John and Dino Elefante were running. This new version of "We Need Jesus" features vocals by Petra lead singer John Schlitt, album co-producer and fellow CCM singer John Elefante and Lou Gramm, lead singer of the rock band Foreigner. Petra Praise 2 peaked at number 2 on the Top Christian Albums and number 155 on the Top 200 Albums charts in Billboard magazine. Petra was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album at the 40th Grammy Awards and won a Dove Award for Praise and Worship Album of the Year at the 29th GMA Dove Awards. • No Doubt (1995)

No Doubt is the fifteenth studio album by the Christian rock band Petra, released on August 26, 1995 by Word Records. John and Dino Elefante return to the production chairs on their first album producing since 1991's Unseen Power. The tone of the album is more pop-oriented than any previous release featuring John Schlitt. Most of the rock songs lack the driving edge of their previous albums, and the sonic field is no longer flooded with distorted guitars, leaning more toward a calculated, radio-friendly sound. This is also Ronny Cates' final appearance on a Petra album as he would leave after the release of this album. All the guitars in the album were played by founder Bob Hartman. However, since he had quit touring with the band before the release of the album, new guitarist David Linchens was enlisted to travel with the band and appeared in the album art and promotional pictures. This is the only album to feature Jim Cooper. Cooper was a keyboard technician for former keyboardist John Lawry for several years. When Lawry retired, Cooper replaced him for this album. No Doubt debuted and peaked at number 91 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, making their first appearance on the main chart. The album also appears on the Heatseekers Albums chart at number 18 and number 2 on the Top Christian Album chart. Petra won a Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year at the 27th GMA Dove Awards and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album, after winning three previous Grammys. Music videos were made for the songs "Enter In" and "Think Twice" to promote the album. Track listing 1. Enter In (Bob Hartman, Jim Cooper, John Elefante) -5:00 2. • Wake-Up Call (1993)

Wake-Up Call is the fourteenth studio album by the Christian rock band Petra, released on November 9, 1993 by DaySpring/Word Records. This is their final album to be released on the DaySpring label as future albums will be released directly to Word Records. The album marks a dramatic shift in tone for the band. The sound is more raw, there are fewer driving rock songs, and it concludes with three consecutive ballads. Wake-Up Call also has a change in producer, as Brown Bannister takes over the production duties for this album, thus continuing their arena rock sound. This is also the last time the personnel line-up will change as long-time member and songwriter Bob Hartman and keyboardist John Lawry will leave the group after the release of this album. Hartman will continue to contribute songs for future Petra albums as Hartman announced his retirement from touring as he wanted to spend time with his family. Hartman turned over his administrative duties to lead singer John Schlitt. Future Petra member Jim Cooper co-wrote the song "Praying Man" with Lawry, whom Cooper will replace. Wake-Up Call peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. In 1994, Petra won a Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year at the 25th GMA Dove Awards and in 1995, won their third Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album at the 37th Grammy Awards.
