Devotion (2004)

Updated: Apr 13

Devotion is the eleventh studio album by the Australian Christian rock band Newsboys, released on November 2, 2004 by Sparrow Records. The album is produced by Peter Furler with Steve Taylor and Wes Campbell as executive producers.

It is the band's second worship-themed album following up their previous album Adoration and it is the only album to feature Bryan Olesen on lead guitar and backing vocals, temporarily replacing Jody Davis. Olesen is one of the founding members of the Christian rock band VOTA (originally named Casting Pearls) in the late 1990s. Guest appearances on Devotion include fellow Australian Christian singer Rebecca St. James on the track "Blessed Be Your Name" (ironically, St. James released a live worship album of the same name in the same year), Delirious? guitarist Stu G, Jon Ellis of Tree63 and Bethel World Outreach Choir.

The album peaked at number 5 on the Top Christian Albums and number 56 on the Top 200 Albums charts in Billboard magazine. In 2005, Newsboys was nominated for a Dove Award for Praise and Worship Album of the Year. The track

"Isaiah" was originally included as an "album only" track when Devotion was purchased from the iTunes Store. The track has since been deleted from the album and is now available only as a separate single.
