Allies was a Christian rock band formed in 1984 by former Sweet Comfort Band member Randy Thomas by bringing in members of two of his former acts: he had been with Bob Carlisle and Jim Erickson in Psalm 150 and was also at one time in the band Sonrise with Sam Scott and Matthew Chapman (Scott was also part of Psalm 150 though not at the same time as Thomas). After the final album Perfect Timing by Sweet Comfort Band was released featuring Thomas and future solo artist - songwriter Bryan Duncan , Allies, with Thomas, Carlisle, Erickson, Scott and Chapman, was formed and was signed to Light Records, even before the group recorded a demo. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1985 and the band took the name at face value as the group appeared on the album jacket cover in military fatigues. Their second album, Virtues , followed a year later in 1986. Both albums were hurt by image-marketing that tried to capitalize on the spiritual warfare fad by presenting the group in paramilitary outfits. Allies left Light Records after Virtues and at the same time Smith left the group. They signed with Word Records in 1987 and released Shoulder to Shoulder as a four-piece band. Allies released their next album Long Way From Paradise in 1989. It would be their most successful album and critically acclaimed. CCM Magazine listed the album as one of the 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music in 2001. Two more albums were released with The River and Man With a Mission . After Man With a Mission was released, Allies disbanded in 1992. Carlisle went on to have a successful solo career and had a hit song with "Butterfly Kisses" in 1997, which he co-wrote with Thomas. Also in 1997, Thomas formed the Christian rock duo Identical Strangers with vocalist Andy Denton and released only one album together. When I Think of Christmas is a compilation Christmas album by Christian singer - songwriter Amy Grant and her husband country music singer - songwriter Vince Gill. It was released on September 13, 2024 by MCA Records Nashville, distributed by Universal Music Group. It is a collection of holiday favorites sung by the husband and wife team from previously released Christmas solo albums, plus the title track that Grant recorded just for this album, that was originally recorded by Grant's co-writer Matt Maher and a duet recording of "'Til the Season Comes 'Round Again" that Grant and Gill perform in their residency at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee each year during the holiday season in December where they perform their series of concerts. Grant and Gill have said of this release: "Since 1993, we've celebrated Christmas with hometown concerts. Singing these songs year after year has created a lifetime of memories for us. We hope this collection of songs brings to mind the best of times and the Love that holds all of us and everything together, the Good News of Great Joy that shall be for all people." The Very Best of The Winans  is a compilation album of the Christian gospel vocal group The Winans . It was released on April 16, 2002 by Warner Bros. specialty label Rhino Records. It is a collection of 16 greatest tracks from their 20-year career from both Light and Qwest releases. It was compiled and produced by Barry "Rockberry" Benson. The 15-page CD booklet contains photos, liner notes about the brothers and history about their albums as well as production credits on each one. 15 of their recordings are full-length tracks with the track "When You Cry" as a single version. The Very Best of The Winans debuted and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. This collection is currently out of print and is not available digitally. Track listing 1. Heart & Soul is the eighth and final studio album by the Christian gospel vocal group The Winans , released on October 24, 1995 by Qwest/Warner Bros. Records and Warner Alliance Records. Two years after their previous album All Out , The Winans return with this release and features a more mature adult contemporary sound and yet still fresh with R&B touches and more gospel than the mainstream sounds of All Out and Return  (1990) . Other than younger sibling BeBe Winans providing backing vocals on the track "Count It All Joy," there are no guest artists or musicians like the previous albums did and was once again executive produced by Quincy Jones and Barry Hankerson and each track was produced by various musicians and producers. The Winans also recorded an updated version of "The Question Is," which they originally recorded for their 1981 debut album Introducing The Winans . Their final chart single was the title song and it peaked at number 89 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart while "Standing On Promises" was released to Christian AC radio. Heart & Soul was their final charted album as a group as it debuted and peaked at number 3 on the Top Gospel Albums and number 12 on the Top Christian Albums charts in Billboard magazine. It was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album. After this release, the brothers recorded a tribute cover of Andraé Crouch's "It Won't Be Long" from the Grammy-winning tribute album Tribute – The Songs of Andraé Crouch . The brothers went their separate ways but have collaborated on either each other's solo projects or on other artists albums. Marvin has been a founding pastor at The Perfecting Church in Detroit, Michigan since 1989 and still is to this day. Ronald suffered and recovered from a heart attack in 1997 and later died of heart complications in 2005. The Winans are an American R&B gospel quartet composed of four brothers whose additional siblings would also become famous gospel stars. The whole Winans legacy begins with their parents, Delores and David Winans, also known as Mom and Pop Winans, who raised their children in Detroit, Michigan in a home where participation in the Pentecostal Holiness Church constituted one's social life and gospel music reigned supreme. The Winans would become known as "the first family of gospel music." Nine of Mom and Pop's ten children are recording artists: the four brothers, twins Marvin and Carvin, Ronald and Michael, which make up The Winans, brothers BeBe and Daniel and sisters CeCe , Angie and Debbie. Marvin's former wife Vickie Winans is also a gospel recording artist and the children of Carvin, Marvin and Michael make up a short-lived group known as Winans Phase 2. Brothers Ronald, Carvin and Marvin made two albums in the mid 1970s without Michael under the name "The Testimonial Singers." They were discovered by Andraé Crouch in 1979 who signed them, along with Michael, to Light Records. Their first album Introducing The Winans was released in 1981. The album scored a hit with "The Question Is" and garnered them their first Grammy nomination. BeBe & CeCe Winans are an American gospel music brother and sister duo. BeBe and CeCe Winans are the seventh and eighth of the Winans family's ten children, most of whom have had gospel music careers. Together, they have received several awards, including three Grammy Awards. While BeBe and CeCe were in high school, four of their elder brothers formed the successful gospel group The Winans. Initially known as The Winans Part II, BeBe and CeCe first appeared in the public eye when they debuted in 1982 as part of the singing group The PTL Singers on the Christian television show The PTL Club . They were introduced by founder Jim Bakker, and recorded their first album Lord Lift Us Up in 1984 as a duo for PTL Records. BeBe and CeCe left PTL Singers in 1987 to pursue a musical career and that same year, Sparrow Records offered the two siblings a Gospel recording contract. Their mainstream debut release was the self-titled album BeBe & CeCe Winans . It was produced by Keith Thomas, who would go on to produce Amy Grant and singer/actress Vanessa Williams. The debut record gave them their first R&B hit, "I.O.U. Me", which topped R&B and inspirational charts and generated Grammy nominations, and Dove and Stellar Awards. Let My People Go is the fourth studio album by the Christian gospel vocal group The Winans . It was released in late 1985 and is their first album on Qwest Records with distribution by Warner Bros. Records. The brothers produced the album themselves. After three albums on Light Records, including their Grammy winning previous album Tomorrow , The Winans signed with Quincy Jones' Qwest Records in hopes of achieving some success in the general market. Let My People Go displays a more raw R&B sound with songs like "Redeemed" and "Very Real Way" moving them into funkier territory than the group has ever explored, even predating Kirk Franklin. The title song uses biblical imagery of the exodus to address contemporary social situations in South Africa and the Middle East. It was their first Top 50 hit on the R&B chart. "Special Lady" is a ballad sung as a memorial tribute to their grandmother. The opening track "Choose Ye" has a Latin/Calypso feel and features duet vocals by Gospel singer Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Kenneth Michael Marks (November 6, 1950 – October 31, 2018) was an American Christian singer. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Marks is the son of Yugoslavian immigrants (Marks is an Anglicized, shortened form of Mrakovitch). Marks studied classical piano and played guitar at age thirteen. He graduated from Messiah College in Philadelphia in 1971 and immediately went to work singing at crusades for Billy Graham with his Afterglow Concert Series. In 1981, Marks first recorded appearance was on a various artists album titled Premier Performance on Myrrh Records with two songs on each side. A year later, Marks released his debut album Follow Him . Right Where You Are was released in 1984. It was on this album that Marks began to find his own definitive style as an artist and wanting to sing about relationships. Marks also started to record songs about a fictitious couple named Johnny and Jeannie. They were introduced as separate, single people in the track "Growing Up Too Fast" (from Right Where You Are ) where they are dealing with emotions and impulses. They meet at a party on the track "The Party's Over" (from 1985's Attitude ). They get together in the back seat of Johnny's car and resulted in a pregnancy which robs them of their carefree teenage lifestyle. The next song "Next Time You See Johnny" (from 1989's Another Friday Night ) deals with Johnny and Jeannie separated and Johnny left Jeannie with their son. The son feels hurt since his father left. Both "The Party's Over" and "Next Time You See Johnny" were made into music videos. The final track, the title song of 1992's Fire of Forgiveness , gives the listener some resolution as Johnny looks back in his life. Marks describes the Johnny and Jeannie series as "everything John Mellencamp didn't tell you about Jack and Diane." Marks recorded his 1987 album Make It Right with the title song becoming a Top 10 hit on the Christian radio charts. From that album, the track "Say a Prayer for Me Tonight" was inspired by a true story of a young man who meets Marks after a concert for counseling and asks Marks to pray for him. The young man committed suicide a few days later. 1992's Fire of Forgiveness continues the theme of family-oriented issues from his 1989 album Another Friday Night . Marks co-wrote many songs with his then-wife Pamela Marks. They divorced in 1997. Marks died of a heart attack on October 31, 2018. Right Where You Are is the second studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Kenny Marks, released in the summer of 1984 on Myrrh/Word Records. The album is produced by Keith Thomas. The album produced its first Top 20 song with the title track. It was an album that Marks began to find his own definitive style as an artist and wanted to sing about relationships. Marks introduces the fictitious couple he created named Johnny and Jeannie on the track "Growing Up Too Fast." They started as individual teenagers where they are each dealing with emotions and impulses. "Single-Minded Love" is a song for single people who are looking for love and waiting on God to provide them with a life partner. CCM recording artist Paul Smith contributed on the album co-writing three songs. Right Where You Are was reissued on CD in Japan by Cool Sound in 2001, but has not been released in North America. We Will Stand/Yesterday and Today is a compilation album by Christian singer - songwriter Russ Taff . This was his final album on the Myrrh Records label released in 1994. It is a collection of Taff's favorite songs from his solo years on the Myrrh label as well as a couple of songs from his time with The Imperials .
