- 15 Best of 15 Years (1991)
15 Best of 15 Years is the official second compilation album by Christian singer - songwriter Chris Christian , originally released in 1991 by Home Sweet Home/Word Records. This collection contains 13 of Christian's best radio hits and favorites covering his first 15 years of recording including a duet with Christian's daughter Courtney on a specially-arranged version of "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands," plus two brand new songs recorded for this collection: "Actions Speak Louder Than Words" featuring guest vocals by vocalist Eric Champion, whom Christian was an executive producer on his self-titled debut album and "The Voice" featuring guest vocals by musician Eric Tagg. Christian dedicated 15 Best of 15 Years to his son Preston, as he wrote in the CD liner notes that his son "one day will enjoy hearing how I spent my time before he came on the scene. I hope he will enjoy Dad's music for the next 15 years as much as I have already enjoyed having him around." 15 Best of 15 Years is currently out of print. - Focus (1989)
Focus is the tenth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Chris Christian , originally released on November 7, 1989 by Home Sweet Home/Word Records. Christian produced and arranged the album himself. Two years after his 1987 release Higher Ways , Christian returns with an album that's about parent/child relationships with its lead single "Focus On the Child," as well as three other tracks dealing with the same subject. The song was Christian's last charted song on the Christian AC chart. It also contains a track titled "The Man Behind the Man" as a tribute to former Dallas Cowboys head coach Tom Landry and features Gerry Beckley of the soft rock duo America. Christian country artist Bruce Carroll provides guest vocals on "(Don't Blame It On) The Ones You Love." The album's sound is more adult contemporary than Higher Ways , which is contemporary pop with a Top 40 sound. On the CD cover, Christian appears with his wife Shanon and their three children, Courtney, Casey Noel and Preston, in an ode to painter and illustrator Norman Rockwell as they are at a 1950's era soda shop. In the bottom chair where Casey Noel is sitting is a doll of Gerbert, which is based on a children's television program of the same name that Christian did the music for and is produced by Home Sweet Home Educational Media. - Phil Keaggy (1998)
Phil Keaggy is the 20th self-titled solo album by Christian singer/songwriter/ guitarist Phil Keaggy . It was released on September 16, 1998 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by Keaggy and Tom Laune. Phil Keaggy is Keaggy's first full vocal album since 1995's True Believer but without the slick production style. He wanted to recapture the live organic sound of his rock and roll albums, Phil Keaggy and Sunday's Child , Find Me in These Fields and Crimson and Blue . Although Keaggy has retained some of True Believer 's adult contemporary sound, there are some Beatle-esqe influences on some of the tracks. The lead single "Days Like You" received some considerable airplay and was his final Top 20 hit on Christian radio but was drowned by the influx of younger artists like Rebecca St. James , Point of Grace , DC Talk and Third Day. Geri Bobeck, Keaggy's sister, contributed her songwriting on two tracks: "My Unspoken Words" and "Tender Love." The tracks "Beneath the Blood-Stained Lintel" and "Quite Suddenly" were inspired by author Harry A. Ironside's book The Continual Burnt Offering . Keaggy also does a cover of the 1988 Sheila Walsh track "Jesus Loves the Church" to close the album. Phil Keaggy debuted and peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. All three play electric, acoustic and bass guitars and amplifiers along with musicians Chris Kent on bass and Ken Lewis on drums and percussion providing the rhythm section. "River of Life" with lead vocals sung by Keaggy was the only Christian radio single to be released. Invention debuted and peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. - Phil Keaggy
Philip Tyler Keaggy (born March 23, 1951 in Youngstown, Ohio) is an American acoustic and electric guitarist and vocalist who has released more than 55 albums and contributed to many more recordings in both the contemporary Christian music and mainstream markets. He is a seven-time recipient of the GMA Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year, and was twice nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album. He has frequently been listed as one of the world's top-two "finger-style" and "finger-picking" guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine readers' polls, and due to his complex and virtuosic playing, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He played in several bands in Ohio in the mid-1960s and eventually formed the band Glass Harp with friend John Sferra in 1968. He became a Christian shortly after his mother's death around Valentine's Day of 1970 and his newfound faith infused all three of the Glass Harp recordings on Decca Records. He left the group in August of 1972 to embark on a solo career (although he has since reunited with Glass Harp for several concerts and recording projects). He recorded his first solo album What A Day in 1973, but it wasn't released until June of 1974 . During that period, he married his wife Bernadette and toured with Love Song. His next solo album, Love Broke Thru , didn't arrive until two years later in 1976. During that time, he toured and recorded with other Jesus Music pioneers such as 2nd Chapter of Acts , Honeytree and Paul Clark & Friends. Over the coming decades, Keaggy would continue to record and tour, as well as contributing his unmistakable guitar work to hundreds of recordings. Keaggy also first started collaborating with fellow CCM singer - songwriter and long-time friend Randy Stonehill in the mid-1970s , often appearing in each other's albums either as singing vocal duets, songwriting or both and have performed in the studio and in live concert performances. - Acoustic Sketches (1996)
Acoustic Sketches is the 16th solo and 4th all-instrumental album by Christian singer/songwriter/guitarist Phil Keaggy . It was originally released through his fan club PKC (Phil Keaggy Club) around February 1996. Keaggy produced the album with John August Schroeter. Featuring mostly original compositions, it is Keaggy's second acoustic instrumental album, following up his 1991 release Beyond Nature . Keaggy does an abridged arrangement of "The 50th," first heard on his 1994 reissue of Way Back Home as one of the bonus tracks. Keaggy wrote this in memory of his grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. There is also a cover of the spiritual hymn "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," which was an outtake from Beyond Nature featuring Phil Maderia on slide guitar. Keaggy writes about each track and how it was made and composed in the CD liner notes. Two years later in 1998, Acoustic Sketches was released nationally by Sparrow Records for wider distribution. Keaggy won his fourth Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year in 1999 at the 30th GMA Dove Awards. - True Believer (1995)
True Believer is the 15th solo album by Christian singer/songwriter/guitarist Phil Keaggy . It was released on May 23, 1995 by Sparrow Records. The album was produced, arranged and programmed by Alan Shacklock. After releasing the three previous "rock and roll" albums that were released from 1988 to 1993, Keaggy returns with True Believer . The album's sound is more adult contemporary but retains some of the rock sounds from those previous albums. At times it's kind of reminiscent of Keaggy's early 1980s albums with further use of programming and keyboards along with its use of live instruments. The title track, "The True Believers," was released as the lead single and did very well at Christian radio. The track climbed up to the top of the Christian AC chart giving Keaggy his first and only number one song. Other highlights include "Only You (Can Wash My Sins Away)," the hymn "Be Thou My Vision," "Salvation Army Band" and "The Survivor." The album also includes a Christmas track "And On That Day," which is about how Mary was the chosen mother to give birth to Jesus. Christian vocalist Susan Ashton provided guest vocals on the song. True Believer debuted and peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Track listing 1. The True Believers (Alan Shacklock) -4:37 2.
