- Randy Stonehill
Randall Evan Stonehill (born March 12, 1952 in Stockton, California) is an American singer and songwriter, best known as one of the pioneers of contemporary Christian music. His music is primarily folk rock in the style of James Taylor, but some of his music has focused on new wave, pop, roots rock, pop rock and children's music. Born in Stockton, California, to parents, Leonard N. Stonehill and his wife, Pauline Correia, Stonehill also has an older brother named Jeffrey Dean Stonehill. After graduating from Leigh High School in San Jose, California, Stonehill moved to Los Angeles where he stayed with Christian rock singer Larry Norman, himself a pioneer in Christian music. In 1970, Stonehill performed the lead role in Jimmy Owens' first Christian musical Show Me . He released his debut album Born Twice in 1971. Stonehill appeared in the motion picture Beware! The Blob a year later, along with Norman. Stonehill made a cameo appearance in the 1973 Christian film Time to Run , performing his song "I Love You." It was produced and distributed by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. That same year, Stonehill released his second album Get Me Out of Hollywood in London. The album remained unreleased until 1999. In 1976, Stonehill released his third album Welcome to Paradise . Considered as a masterpiece, the album was named as one of the 100 greatest albums in Christian music by CCM Magazine in 2001. Stonehill co-wrote the classic "Your Love Broke Through," first recorded by CCM musician Phil Keaggy in 1976 and a year later by Keith Green on his debut album For Him Who Has Ears to Hear . The Sky is Falling was released in 1980, and then starting in 1981, Stonehill began his decade recording career on Word Records with Between the Glory and the Flame . His 1983 album Equator featured the very popular Christian radio hit " Shut De Dó." Stonehill's next album Celebrate This Heartbeat was released in 1984. The track "Who Will Save the Children" featured a vocal duet Keaggy. His next album Love Beyond Reason (1985) featured the lead single "I Could Never Say Goodbye" with Amy Grant , where it became a Christian radio hit and was a Grammy nominee for Best Gospel Performance by a Duo or Group. Stonehill also released Love Beyond Reason -The Video Album that same year. Stonehill teamed up with musician Dave Perkins on two albums. The first, The Wild Frontier (1986), is a return to rock music with some authenticity and rawness. The title song was a big hit on Christian Rock radio. The second, Can't Buy a Miracle (1988), is a continuation of The Wild Frontier , with more rock and even some country. The track "Coming Back Soon" was another Christian radio hit. That same year Stonehill and Keaggy formed The Keaggy/Stonehill Band with other musicians performing in concerts and in the studio. In 1989, Stonehill released Return to Paradise , a reference to his 1976 album Welcome to Paradise . The 1990s saw Stonehill return to his folk rock roots with his albums, Until We Have Wings , Wonderama , The Lazarus Heart and Thirst . In 2001, Stonehill recorded a children's album Uncle Stonehill's Hat . After 50 years of musical ministry, Stonehill is one of the few Jesus Music-era musicians who continues to record and tour regularly. - Written On the Wind (1977)
Written On the Wind is the third solo album by Christian singer - songwriter Chuck Girard . It was originally released on November 1977 by Good News/Word Records. Girard wrote and produced the album himself. Girard was planning this album as a departure from his two previous solo albums and even his albums with Love Song, with the emphasis of a singer, songwriter and storyteller. With only nine tracks on Written On the Wind , Girard wanted to create an album which reflected his message in a more artistic way. Girard had been writing some songs which had taken a look at some important events in the Bible, and reflected on them from an outside perspective: the agony and ecstasy it must have been to be the mother of Jesus, the Crucifixion and Resurrection of the Lord, and the future as reported in the book of Revelation. Highlights of songs from the album include "Spirit Wind," "Mary's Song," Thank You Lord" and "Peace in the Valley." Girard wrote all nine songs on Written On the Wind , with the final track,"The Warrior," was composed with fellow singer and songwriter Terry Clark. In 2010, Written On the Wind was reissued digitally on Girard's own label Seven Thunders Records. Track listing All songs are written by Chuck Girard, except where noted. 1. Spirit Wind -3:40 2. The song "The Other Woman" is dedicated to his now-grown daughter. A music video was made for the further single "Childlike Faith." Beyond All the Limits peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. In 1995, Harris was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album and was nominated for two Dove Awards for Male Vocalist of the Year and Inspirational Album of the Year. - The Imperials
The Imperials are an American Christian music vocal group that has been active for 60 years. Originating as a southern gospel quartet, the innovative group would become pioneers of contemporary Christian music in the 1960s. There have been many changes for the band in membership and musical styles over the years. They would go on to win four Grammy Awards, 15 Dove Awards and be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Their most successful period was in 1977 when Russ Taff joined the group the previous year and released albums Sail On , One More Song for You and Priority and would win Grammy and Dove Awards during that period between 1978 and 1982. Taff would leave the group in 1981 to begin his solo career and was replaced by Paul Smith . Stand by the Power with Smith in the lead spot was released and was even more successful. Smith stayed on for two more albums and released his final album with the Imperials Let the Wind Blow in 1985. Smith and long-time member Jim Murray would both leave the group after the release of Let the Wind Blow . Ron Hemby and Jimmie Lee Sloas were brought in to replace Smith and Murray for their albums This Year's Model and Free the Fire . Sloas left the group in 1989 to focus more behind the scenes on producing and songwriting and David Robertson replaced Sloas on their 1990 album Love's Still Changing Hearts . After that album, Robertson and Hemby left the group. Armond Morales (the group's founder and bass singer) brought in his sister Pam Morales, along with Jonathan Pierce for two more albums Big God and Stir It Up . Pam Morales at that time was the first and only female vocalist of the group. The Imperials have had number one songs in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. As of 2024, the new Imperials line-up consists of Smith, Hemby, Rick Evans and Rod Fletcher and have recently released an EP entitled Blessed . - Glow In the Dark (1976)
Glow In the Dark is the second solo album by Christian singer - songwriter Chuck Girard . It was originally released in 1976 by Good News/Word Records. Girard wrote and produced the album himself. According to Girard regarding Glow In the Dark , this album featured several songs that were considered confrontational in nature. It was far different from his self-titled solo debut album which he says was a "safe record." Two such particular songs were "I Remember" and "Somethin' Supernatural." The former song was based on the idea of reflecting in the thoughts of someone who saw a close friend claim salvation and then fail to live it out in front of the person, while the latter song is a straight-ahead blues number and is written from the viewpoint of a non-Christian who is observing the changes in his newly born-again friend, similar to the dialog set up in "I Remember." The difference in this song being that the friend is favorably impressed with the changes, although he's bewildered by some of it. In the end, the suggestion is that the non-Christian friend is being pulled toward salvation by the witness of his friend. Other stand out tracks include "Callin' You," "I Know a Lady," "Old Dan Cotton," "Return" features John Michael Talbot on acoustic guitar and the Easter-themed "So Thankful." In 2010, Glow In the Dark was reissued digitally on Girard's own label Seven Thunders Records. Track listing All songs are written by Chuck Girard. 1. Anthem -1:02 2. Callin' You -3:02 3. I Remember -4:33 4. Return -3:23 5. I Know a Lady -3:11 6. No, No, You're Not Afraid -2:55 7. Somethin' Supernatural -3:50 8. When I Was Ready to Listen -5:36 9. So Thankful -3:02 10. - Chuck Girard (1975)
Chuck Girard is the self-titled debut solo album by Christian singer - songwriter Chuck Girard . It was originally released in 1975 on Word Records' Good News label. Girard's debut album was released right after the brake up of his Christian band Love Song. It was pretty much a soft rock album with some ballads and some rock and roll. It opens with the track "Rock and Roll Preacher," which presents Girard's testimony to a rollicking beat and presents it with a good dose of humor. Definitely considered a classic. "Lay Your Burden Down" is a hymn-like invitation to surrender all at the foot of the cross. "Tinageria" is a melodic mid tempo ballad about youth who have to face adult pressures before their time; the name is short for "teenage era." "Slow Down" is a song about a call for stressed-out people to just relax and trust God. Chuck Girard 's final track is his signature worship ballad "Sometimes Alleluia." It has been much covered by many Christian artists including The Imperials , The Gaithers and evangelist Jimmy Swaggart. CCM Magazine has ranked the song at number 96 in their 2006 book The 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music and features backing vocals from 2nd Chapter of Acts and the Shekinah Fellowship Choir. "Sometimes Alleluia" is a popular chorus that is now found in many hymn books. Girard wrote and produced the album himself, with the exception of the track "Everybody Knows For Sure," which Girard co-wrote with fellow singer - songwriter and one-time Love Song member Denny Correll. The mainstream soft rock band Ambrosia were the musicians who played on the entire album along with other studio musicians. Girard, in turn, was involved as a performer participating on Ambrosia's second album Somewhere I've Never Travelled , released in 1976. In 2010, Chuck Girard was reissued digitally on Girard's own label Seven Thunders Records. Track listing All songs are written by Chuck Girard, except where noted. 1. Rock and Roll Preacher -2:42 2. You Ask Me Why -3:14 3. Evermore -3:29 4. Quiet Hour -3:40 5. Everybody Knows For Sure (Chuck Girard, Denny Correll) -4:24 6. Galilee -3:17 7. Tinageria -3:48 8. Lay Your Burden Down -5:18 9. - Captured in Time and Space (1986)
Captured in Time and Space is a 1986 live album by the Christian rock band Petra on Star Song Records. The album was recorded live at three venues during the Beat the System Tour: Civic Auditorium, Knoxville, Tennessee - November 21, 1985, Memorial Auditorium, Greenville, South Carolina - November 22, 1985 and Township Auditorium, Columbia, South Carolina - November 23, 1985. The album is recorded and produced by Jonathan David Brown. This will be Brown's last album that he will produce for Petra. An accompaniment concert video was also released on VHS and in 2006 was re-released on DVD. Captured in Time and Space peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. NOTE: this is the third Petra album to feature the song "God Gave Rock and Roll to You." The song was written by Russ Ballard and covered by KISS and twice by Petra. Between "Godpleaser" and "It Is Finished" there was a song cut out of the CD and LP versions that only exists on the cassette version and concert video. It was an improvised song known as "The Great I Am." This recorded concert was the only time it was ever performed. The cover of the CD version refers to it, advertising a "bonus song" that isn't actually included. The talking in between songs is different on the CD version in a couple of places as compared to the LP version, particularly before the last song where a minute or so has been cut out and several minutes newly added (taken from the cassette version). Cindy Lavonne Morgan (born June 4, 1968) is an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, producer and pianist. Morgan grew up in Harrigate, Tennessee, and worked in shows at the Dollywood Theme Park before catching her break in Christian music. Then after signing with Word Records, Morgan released one of the most successful debut albums in the history of contemporary Christian music. Morgan released her debut album Real Life in 1992. It produced three number one songs, mainly on the Christian CHR chart. In 1993, Morgan was named New Artist of the Year at the Dove Awards and then later released her second album A Reason to Live . That album produced three more number ones on the Christian CHR chart. The ballad "I Will Be Free" won Short Form Music Video of the Year at the 1995 Dove Awards and was named as one of the 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music .
