Happenin' is a live album by Christian singer - songwriter Gary Chapman. It was released in late 1982 and is the final album on Benson Records' Lamb & Lion label. It was produced and mixed by DeGarmo & Key (Eddie DeGarmo and Dana Key). The live album was recorded live at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, TN on April 26, 1982. Chapman performs two early songs that he would later re-record in his 1994 album The Light Inside: "Treasure" and "Finally." The latter track was a number one country hit by country music artist T. G. Sheppard in 1982. Chapman also performs a cover of "You Need a Hero" as recorded by the soft rock pop duo Pages (co-written by the duo's Richard Page and Steve George, who later formed Mr. Mister).
Amy Grant was a featured singer singing a duet with future husband Chapman on the track "Always," which he co-wrote with Michael W. Smith. Smith also performs playing keyboards throughout the live album. Chapman makes his first appearance on Billboard magazine's Inspirational Albums (renamed Top Christian Albums) chart as Happenin' peaked at number 30 in the spring of 1983.
After this release, Chapman toured with Grant on the Age to Age Tour and would be more involved with Grant's career as they were married at the time. Happenin'
is currently out of print and is not available on CD nor digitally. A YouTube link to listen to the album is posted below this article.
