  • Collide (2003)

Collide is the fifth studio album by the Christian rock band Skillet , released on November 18, 2003 by Ardent Records. Paul Ebersold produced all tracks except "Fingernails," which was produced solely by John Cooper. Collide is more nu metal and alternative rock, leaving behind the industrial rock of their previous albums. This is the first Skillet album to feature Ben Kasica on guitars full time. The album was reissued and remastered to the mainstream market by the Lava label, which is a subsidiary of Atlantic Records on May 25, 2004. The reissue featured an extra track "Open Wounds," which was produced by Kevin Kadish. Their rock single and music video for "Savior" gave the band their first crossover hit into the mainstream rock market and entered the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart peaking at number 26. It was the first of many songs to chart on the Billboard rock charts in addition to charting the Christian music charts. Collide debuted and peaked at number 9 on the Top Christian Albums and at number 179 on the Billboard 200 Albums charts. Skillet picked up Dove Award nominations for Modern Rock Recorded Song of the Year for "Savior" in 2004 and was nominated for Modern Rock Album of the Year in 2005. Also in 2005, Skillet earned their first Grammy nomination for Best Rock Gospel Album. Collide has sold more than 320,000 copies in the U.S. alone. It was the beginning of Skillet's rise to stardom. • Alien Youth (2001)

Alien Youth is the fourth studio album by the Christian rock band Skillet , released on August 28, 2001 by Ardent Records and SRE Recordings. It was later distributed by INO Records and Sony Music. This is the first Skillet album that was entirely produced by lead singer and musician John Cooper and the first album to be released solely by the Ardent label without ForeFront Records attached. Alien Youth continued their industrial hard rock sound combined with modern rock and some nu metal. Ironically, when the album was released before the events of 9/11, the Christian CHR lead single, "You Are My Hope" after the events, became a source of comfort and inspiration. It was a song that people needed and it resonated with Christian radio. Some Christian AC radio stations were also playing the track, which is a Skillet first. The band went through another line-up change as guitarist Ben Kasica joined and was replacing Kevin Haaland. Kasica joined Skillet late in the recording process for the album, only recording guitars on "Earth Invasion," with Haaland playing guitar throughout the album. Some limited editions of Alien Youth on CD, titled Alien Youth: Rare Cuts featured two rare tracks that were left off the album: "Heaven in My Veins" and "Always the Same." The album debuted and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums and Skillet debuts for the first time on the Billboard 200 Albums chart peaking at number 141. In 2002, Skillet was nominated for two Dove Awards for Modern Rock/Alternative Album of the Year and Rock Recorded Song of the Year for the title song. That same year, they released a concert DVD titled Alien Youth: The Unplugged Invasion featuring acoustic performances of four songs from the album, a music video for "Best Kept Secret" (from Invincible ), an Alien Youth Bible Study and a photo gallery. A year later, the band was nominated for Hard Music Recorded Song of the Year for the track "Vapor." Track listing All songs written by John Cooper, except where noted. 1. Alien Youth -4:12 2. Skillet is the debut studio album by the Christian rock band Skillet . It was released on October 29, 1996 by ForeFront Records and Ardent Records. It was later distributed by INO Records (later renamed Fair Trade Services) and Sony Music. Skidd Mills and Paul Ebersold produced the album. The band started out as a trio with John Cooper on lead vocals and bass guitar, Ken Steorts in guitars and vocals and Trey McClurkin on drums and vocals as their self-titled debut album showcases Christian lyrics with a grunge sound. It was just the beginning of Skillet's musical transformation, both personnel and sound wise. Skillet was recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis with the label's co-founder and former DeGarmo & Key band member Dana Key serving as executive producer. Music videos were made for the tracks, "I Can," "Gasoline" and "Saturn." Prior to releasing their eponymous debut album, the band recorded Right Upside Your Head , a six-song demo on cassette tape, earlier that same year. The songs "Shovel" and "Darn Great Day" were exclusive to the demo while "Gasoline," "Promise Blender" and "Boundaries" would be re-recorded for Skillet . The demo version of "Boundaries" features Steorts on vocals. The demo track "Safe With Me" was re-recorded as "Safe With You" on the band's debut album.
