- CeCe Winans (2001)
CeCe Winans is the self-titled fifth studio album by Christian gospel singer CeCe Winans , released on June 19, 2001 by WellSpring Gospel and Sparrow Records. Brown Bannister produced a majority of the album along with co-producers Tommy Sims and Robbie Buchanan. The album is more like her 1998 album Everlasting Love with a mixture of pop, R&B, and hip hop. CeCe Winans is not only musically diverse but offers hard-hitting messages. The song "It's Gonna Get Better" was written with teen suicide prevention programs in mind, while Cece covers her brothers The Winans ' track "Bring Back the Days of Yea and Nay," a duet with brother and member Marvin Winans, challenges parents to take responsibility for training their children. A definite highlight on the album is the song "Looking Back at You." It is an inspirational track, leaning toward a ballad, that speaks of God's unfailing and unconditional love. Christian hip hop duo GRITS are featured rappers on the track "Anybody Wanna Pray." Latin singer - songwriter Marc Anthony co-wrote the track "No One." The album has charted on the following Billboard album charts: -#2 Top Gospel Albums -#2 Top Christian Albums -#48 Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums -#116 Billboard 200 Albums CeCe Winans was certified Gold in 2003 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The Call is the second studio album by the Christian R&B/gospel group Anointed , released in 1995 on Myrrh/Word Records. The album is produced by brothers Cedric and Victor Caldwell, Christopher Harris and Mark Heimermann. The Call was considered a breakthrough and the most successful and best selling album from the group. The group's sound was scaled back from their debut album Spiritual Love Affair and is more adult contemporary with some upbeat songs and moving ballads. Anointed experienced some mainstream success with the track "It's in God's Hands Now." Its music video was added on rotation on BET (Black Entertainment Television) and made the Top 40 on Billboard 's R&B chart. The song is about letting go of a spouse who doesn't want to stay in a relationship and in the music video, showed some statistics about how marriages end in divorce. It's a first in a gospel music album that divorce is rarely talked about. Michael W. Smith provides guest vocals on The Winans cover track "If I Labor." The Call peaked at number 5 on the Top Christian Albums and number 12 on the Top Gospel Albums charts in Billboard magazine. Anointed was named Contemporary Duo/Group of the Year at the 11th Annual Stellar Awards and won three Dove Awards for Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year, Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for the title song (the group wrote the song themselves) and Urban Recorded Song of the Year for the track "It's in God's Hands Now." Oxygen is the fifth studio album by the Christian vocal group Avalon , released on May 22, 2001 by Sparrow Records. The album was produced by Brown Bannister. This is the final studio album with member Cheri Paliotta (now Adams). Oxygen is considered one of Avalon's most successful albums with six singles released to Christian radio and all hitting number one on all formats: CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio), AC (Adult Contemporary) and INSP (Inspirational or Inspo). Two of those singles were lead singles simultaneously: "The Glory" to AC/INSP formats and "Make It Last Forever" to CHR formats. Avalon's main strength is in the AC format were they have more number one songs and almost compared to their counterpart, female vocal group Point of Grace . "Make It Last Forever" is Avalon's first, and only, number one hit on the CHR chart where it stayed for two weeks while "The Glory" topped the AC chart for four weeks. It also was number one on the Inspo chart for a week. Avalon made Christian radio history by having two songs topping the charts in three different formats, showing their massive appeal to both younger and older audiences. More number ones include "Wonder Why," "I Don't Want to Go" and "Undeniably You" on the AC chart and "Come And Fill My Heart" on the Inspo chart. The title song "My Oxygen" was written by Richard Page (of Mr. Mister) and English singer - songwriter Nik Kershaw. "By Heart, By Soul" features American R&B singer Aaron Neville. Oxygen gave Avalon their first number one album on the Billboard Top Christian Albums and debuted and peaked at number 37 on the Billboard 200 Albums charts with sales of 33,400 copies in its first week. Both chart positions represent the highest performances on their respective charts in the group's career. A limited edition CD single containing four tracks was released at Christian retail as a free bonus to customers who pre-ordered Oxygen . The single includes the album's first two singles, "The Glory" (radio version) and "Make It Last Forever," the radio version of "Fly to You" from the Jesus TV mini-series soundtrack and a live recording of "Testify to Love" from their second album A Maze of Grace . In 2002, Avalon earned their second Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop/ Contemporary Gospel Album and was nominated for three Dove Awards for Group of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year and Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year for "The Glory." "The Glory" was also nominated for Song of the Year. A collector's edition of Oxygen was released, including one bonus track, "Beyond the Clouds." - God With Us: A Celebration of Christmas Carols & Classics (1997)
God With Us: A Celebration of Christmas Carols & Classics is a compilation project album released in the fall of 1997 on Sparrow Records. The album serves as a companion to the 1996 release Emmanuel: A Musical Celebration of the Life of Christ and is executive produced by Norman Miller. A multi-artists national tour proceeded after the release of Emmanuel and features talented CCM artists performing Christmas carols in the first half of the show before segueing into the presentation of the musical. It was in this album that the Christian vocal group Avalon recorded their first Christmas song "Angels We Have Heard On High." They first performed it on the 1995 Young Messiah Farewell Tour, but at that time, two of the eventual four band mates had not signed with Sparrow Records. When they were signed to Sparrow a year later, they participated on the Emmanuel Tour and performed this song again. Avalon would later record a new arrangement of "Angels..." on their 2000 release Joy: A Christmas Collection as part of a medley. In addition to Avalon, other artists in this project include CeCe Winans , Michael W. Smith , Sandi Patty , Larnelle Harris , Steve Green , Anointed , Twila Paris and more. There are six previously released tracks while the rest of the album consists of new holiday recordings of Christmas carols and hymns with contemporary arrangements. God With Us peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. It won a Dove Award for Special Event Album of the Year, awarded to the participating artists and Miller for producing in 1998 at the 29th GMA Dove Awards. The album is out of print and is not available for streaming. A YouTube link to listen to the album is posted below this article. Track listing 1. Joy to the World (Anointed) (Isaac Watts) -3:50 2. - In a Different Light (1999)
In a Different Light is the third studio album by the Christian vocal group Avalon , released on March 23, 1999 by Sparrow Records. In the group's first change, it is the first album with group member Cheri Paliotta (now Adams), who replaced Nikki Hassman-Anders and it is also Avalon's first time working with producer Brown Bannister. The line-up stayed like this for the next two albums. Like their previous albums, In a Different Light produced four more number one songs on the Christian AC chart: "In Not Of" (their first music video), "Take You At Your Word" and "Always Have, Always Will," which was co-written by Toby McKeehan of DC Talk . "Can't Live a Day," their further number one Christian song, gave Avalon their first, and only, limited exposure to mainstream AC radio. Even though it did not chart, "Can't Live a Day" had altered lyrics with the name of Jesus removed so that it was tailor-made for mainstream radio airplay. In a Different Light debuted and peaked at number two on the Top Christian Albums and at number 81 on the Billboard 200 Albums charts. In 2000, Avalon was nominated for four Dove Awards including Group of the Year and Artist of the Year, but losing in all categories. "Can't Live a Day" was nominated for Song of the Year. They were nominated for Group of the Year in 2001. Avalon achieved their second and final Gold-certified album as In a Different Light sold half a million copies by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in October 2000.
