ZOEgirl is an American Christian pop girl group formed in 1999. The group comprised Chrissy Conway-Katina, Alisa Girard (she is the eldest daughter of early Christian music pioneer Chuck Girard and his wife Karen) and Kristin Swinford-Schweain. They were signed to Sparrow Records from 1999 to 2006 and released their debut single "I Believe" in 2000. This song and their self-titled debut album ZOEgirl helped them become Sparrow's fastest selling artist of all time. "With All of My Heart ," the lead single for their second album Life , was the group's only No. 1 Christian contemporary hit radio (CHR) single and led to the group receiving a GMA Dove Award for New Artist of the Year in 2002. By the end of 2003, over one million albums from ZOEgirl were sold. As a response to the musical trends of the time, ZOEgirl changed their format from teen pop to pop rock with the release of " You Get Me " in 2003. Released as the lead single for their third album, Different Kind of Free , this was their only No. 1 Christian adult contemporary (AC) single. It also peaked at No. 2 on CHR, making it the second-highest ZOEgirl song on that chart. The group's musical change and the growing digital piracy at the time led to slower sales of ZOEgirl's music. Their highly anticipated fourth and final studio album Room to Breathe earned the No. 1 spot on Billboard 's Top Heatseekers Album charts. It was ZOEgirl's least successful album in terms of US Christian radio airplay, with only "About You" and "Scream" released as singles and the latter being unsuccessful. In 2006, ZOEgirl disbanded, and Kristin and Chrissy formed the group Colman Blue with Kelly Trontell, which split up in January 2010. Alisa pursued a solo career, got married to Mike Childers who played drums for ZOEgirl on tour and raised a family. Alisa has also authored three books. In August 2025, after more than two decades apart, ZOEgirl has reunited (with updated photos of themselves) and have announced on their social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, that they are celebrating 25 years of music and memories and "something special" is coming. Different Kind of Free is the third studio album by the Christian girl group ZOEgirl , released on September 16, 2003 by Sparrow Records. Tedd T. produced a majority of the album with musician Lynn Nichols co-producing the track "Unbroken" and Robert "Aurel M" Marvin producing the title track. It was a musical transition for ZOEgirl as they traded in their bubblegum/dance/ pop sound of their first two albums for a pop rock sound, pretty much like Christian artist Rebecca St. James ' transition in the mid-1990s when she released her 1996 album God . The track "Here and Now," from their last album Life , served as a map to their transitional sound as their lyrics are more mature and the electric guitars are up front. Each track with the lyrics on the CD has a theme verse from the Bible. The lead single and music video "You Get Me" was written by group member Chrissy Conway-Katina and her husband James Katina of the Christian vocal group The Katinas. The lyrics are inspired by Psalm 139, describing how the God of Christianity is the only one who truly and intimately knows and understands the life of an individual. The song exists to encourage those who are struggling, especially Christians. "You Get Me" was an immediate hit on both the Christian CHR and AC charts. The song topped Radio & Records Christian AC chart and peaked at number two on both Billboard Hot Christian Songs and Christian Airplay charts. Their second single "Beautiful Name" was a Top 10 hit on the Christian radio charts as well. Life is the second studio album by the Christian girl group ZOEgirl , released on November 20, 2001 by Sparrow Records. Life opens with the lead single "With All of My Heart." A pumped-up worship pop track, the song was a hit on both Christian CHR and AC radio charts. The rest of the album continues their contemporary pop sound with hints of dance pop, euro-dance, R&B and some adult contemporary. A music video was made for their further single "Dismissed." The dance pop track encourages young ladies to end (or, in this case, "dismiss") unhealthy relationships, while also not giving in to Satan and temptation. "Plain" is a slowed-down pop ballad written solely by group member Kristin Swinford -Schweain. Lyrically similar to Christina Aguilera's pop ballad "Beautiful," (even though "Beautiful" wasn't released until a year later), "Plain" is written about Kristen's personal struggles with self-esteem and it reminds the listener, for those who have self-esteem struggles, that they are a precious treasure, no matter what others say. The track "Here and Now" is a pop rock track with electric guitars and drum loops. The lyrics encourage Christians to stand together and live for Jesus with all they have. This music genre becomes more common in ZOEgirl's final two Sparrow releases Different Kind of Free and Room to Breathe . The final track "The Truth," written solely by group member Alisa Childers, is a slowed-down song reminiscent of the ZOEgirl track "Constantly." The final section of the song ends at 6:10. After 18 seconds of silence, the hidden track of "ABCs to Salvation" begins at the 6:28 mark, which can be heard. ZOEgirl is the debut album by the Christian girl group ZOEgirl . It was released by Sparrow Records on August 15, 2000. After the ZOEgirl group was formed, they immediately began to work on their self-titled album at a fast pace. They temporarily separated during the Christmas holidays of 1999 to pray about the album and the message they should record on it. After this, they realized that they wanted to talk about their relationships with God and the romantic relationships that people may face in life. Producers remarked that paper, drafting the debut album's content, was scattered all around the studio. ZOEgirl worked with producers Tedd T., Joey P. and Michael Quinlan to craft their sound. ZOEgirl released their self-titled debut album by August of 2000 featuring a mix of bubblegum pop with their mainstream pop contemporaries like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys and even their Christian boy band counterpart Plus One. Songs like "I Believe" (their lead single and music video), "Anything Is Possible" and "Living For You" were Christian radio hits. Fire & Light is the seventh solo album by Christian singer - songwriter Chuck Girard . Originally released independently in 1990 on Girard's label Seven Thunders Records, it was distributed in 1991 by Frontline Music Group/Diamante Music Group by way of Asaph Records. Fire & Light served as a companion album to his 1983 release The Name Above All Names in terms of the album's sound which was praise and worship with some upbeat songs. It was Girard's first album of new material in seven years and his first album of the 1990s. The recording of this album was a challenge to him because it is his first album to be recorded digitally. Girard admits that Fire & Light is not his favorite album because of these recording aspects. Despite that, it was also a family affair because Girard's family was involved in the making of this album. Girard's wife Karen co-wrote the opening track "Set the Trumpet to Your Mouth" and Girard's eldest daughter Alisa (before she became a member of ZOEgirl ) provided backing vocals on three tracks: "Blessed In the City," "O Holy Night" (not the Christmas song) and "Lift My Hands." Fire & Light was recorded and funded at Girard's church at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California. Charles H. Girard (August 27, 1943 – August 11, 2025) was an American musician, considered a pioneer of contemporary Christian music. Born in Los Angeles, California, Girard and his family moved to Santa Rosa, California in his early teens and formed his first band The Castells. The Castells were influential in defining the early 1960s "California sound" and placed a couple of songs in the national charts including "Sacred" peaking at number 20. After three years with The Castells, Girard along with Castells member Joe Kelley, left the group and both were recruited by producer Gary Usher to form the surf rock band The Hondells. The Hondells had a Top 10 hit with their version of The Beach Boys tracks "Little Honda" in 1964. Girard also was involved in other projects and side bands like The Knights and Mr. Gasser and the Weirdos. In the early 1970s Girard was playing gigs in clubs with Tommy Coomes, Jay Truax and Fred Field. After experimentations with LSD and at least one drug bust in Las Vegas, the musicians were reading different spiritual texts when they were invited to what Girard called a Christian commune in Laguna Beach. An invitation to Calvary Chapel, before it became a megachurch, led to all four musicians becoming Christian coverts. Love Song became a house band of sorts at the Chuck Smith-led, counterculture-friendly church. Their 1971 self-titled debut album was considered a masterpiece. CCM Magazine named it as one of the 100 greatest albums in Christian music in 2001. Girard produced the first of a long series of compilation albums on Calvary Church’s Maranatha! Music label, The Everlastin’ Living Jesus Music Concert , although he said he was not credited as such on the album, “because I was told that would be giving the glory to man, not God,” he said. (Producer credits were added on subsequent Maranatha! releases.) Girard and his fiancé Karen were married on November 27, 1971. Love Song then released a second album Final Touch in 1974. It was the final album featuring Girard. In 1975, Girard became a solo artist after leaving Love Song. He wrote and performed the songs "Sometimes Alleluia" and "Rock 'N' Roll Preacher"; both were featured on his debut album Chuck Girard. It also featured the band Ambrosia prominently throughout. Girard in turn was featured on Ambrosia's album Somewhere I've Never Travelled in 1976, although it does not mention as to what role or involvement Girard did on the album. He was the father of Alisa Childers, a member of the former Christian girl group ZOEgirl and Christian apologist. In 2024, Girard was diagnosed with stage IV cancer that had metastasized to his lungs. He was taken off chemotherapy as it was ineffective. Girard died on August 11, 2025, at the age of 81, just two weeks shy of his 82nd birthday. The Stand is the fifth solo album by Christian singer - songwriter Chuck Girard . It was originally released on August 1980 by Good News/Word Records. This was Girard's final album on Word Records overall. The Stand was written and recorded during Girard's downslide into the depths of the final stage of his alcohol addiction. Many of the songs were biographical, and reflected his then current struggles. The album was produced by Bob Rose. This was the first album that Girard did not produce. Girard is usual hands on when it comes to production. While Rose produced and mixed the album, Girard was hospitalized for his addiction and went through an intervention. The executives at Word Records did not liked the album's content, because the songs were too sad and controversial especially when it comes to alcoholism, particularly on the title song, "Racin' Like the Wind" and "Child Come Home." The Stand was, in some ways, a head of its time. The album did not perform as well as his previous albums did. Girard wrote all nine songs plus vocalist and songwriter Pat Hollis co-wrote the track "Home For Good." In 2010, The Stand  was reissued digitally on Girard's own label Seven Thunders Records. Voice of the Wind is the eighth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Chuck Girard , released independently in 1996 on Girard's label Seven Thunders Records. It was recorded live at Westbrook Chapel in Bakersfield, California with overdubs and mastering done at Peace In The Valley Recording in Arleta, California. Girard sings songs of worship with his original compositions and does some worship covers like "Psalm 5" and "Abba Father." Girard closes the album with his signature worship classic "Sometimes Alleluia." Girard's daughter Alisa joins her dad providing vocal duets and special parts. The Good News label approached Girard to write some comments about the songs on the album liner notes which he eagerly accepted. This collection contains ten of Girard's best songs.
