Come Together is the fifth studio album by the Christian rock band Third Day, released on November 6, 2001 by Essential Records/Provident Music. The album was produced by Monroe Jones.
Released after the success of back-to back Gold sellers Time and Offerings, Third Day returns with Come Together with the title track released as the lead single. It was used as a tribute to 9/11 and gained significant airplay in both Christian Rock and Christian CHR radio stations. "Show Me Your Glory" was released to Christian AC radio as the lead single. Written by the band's guitarist Mark Lee and Marc Byrd (co-writer of "God of Wonders"), the song's lyrics draw direct inspiration from major biblical figures who experienced the overwhelming presence of God. Both tracks topped Radio and Records Christian music charts simultaneously with the title song on CHR and Rock and "Show Me Your Glory" on AC. "Show Me Your Glory" was listed at number 24 in 2006 from CCM Magazine's book The 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music.
"40 Days" draws heavily from the biblical significance of the number 40, which traditionally represents a defined period of testing, trial, and preparation, such as 40 days and nights of rain during the Noah's ark narrative and Jesus' 40 days and nights spent fasting in the desert while being tempted in the wilderness by Satan. The album closer "Nothing Compares," according to lead singer Mac Powell, who also wrote it, was directly inspired by the Apostle Paul's words in Philippians 3:7-11. In that scripture, Paul explains that all of his earthly achievements, riches, and status are completely worthless when measured against the "surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord." The song functions as a reminder that no material success, human accolade, or worldly experience can ever match the fulfillment found in a relationship with God.
Come Together debuted and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums and at number 31 on the Billboard 200 Albums charts. It gave Third Day their third Gold album by April 2002, less than six months after it was originally released. Third Day collected Dove Awards for the next two years for this project including winning Group of the Year in 2002 and 2003 consecutively. Also in 2003 after three previous Grammy nominations, the band won their first Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album at the 45th Grammy Awards.
Third Day also released their second live concert video on DVD in 2003 entitled Third Day Live in Concert: The Come Together Tour, which captures the group performing a mix of songs from this release, worship tracks and previous live favorites. The DVD menu also includes the making of the album, band commentary, interviews with the band and more.
