The Secret of Time is the third studio album by singer - songwriter Charlie Peacock . Released on May 4, 1990, it was his first album on Sparrow Records after moving from California to Tennessee with his family to record this album. The album was produced by Brown Bannister with Peacock writing all ten songs on The Secret of Time . Guest musicians include Margaret Becker and Wayne Kirkpatrick singing backing vocals on the track "Heaven is a Real Place" and Peacock's 9-year old son Sam Ashworth was singing backing vocals with a children's choir on "Dear Friend." Also in 1990, Sparrow Video released four Front Row videos on VHS featuring the artists performing acoustic songs of past hits and favorites as well as testimonies and some stories behind the songs. - Charlie Peacock (1986)
Charlie Peacock is the self-titled second solo album by singer -songwriter Charlie Peacock . Released in the fall of 1986, it was Peacock's final album on the Exit Records label and distributed by Island Records. This was supposed to be Peacock's breakthrough album that was supposed to solidify his secular presence. Unfortunately that didn't work out. A&M Records bailed on the album and it eventually ended up on Island Records. Island was unable to properly promote the album so it didn't have any secular success. One of the stranger production ideas was to include a new recording of "Lie Down on the Grass" from his 1984 album of the same name . The beats and synth were perfect for the time and the album was easily as good as anything on the radio at the time. A music video was made for the track "Message Boy" in a slightly different remix form from the album version. The album was mainly produced by English record engineer Nigel Gray with Peacock writing and composing the entire album. Charlie Peacock contains the original recording of "Down in the Lowlands." Former Imperials lead singer Russ Taff would cover the song on his 1987 self-titled album . The 1986 recording of "Lie Down in the Grass" would appear on the 30th Anniversary Expanded Edition of Lie Down in the Grass as one of the bonus tracks. Charlie Peacock was remastered in 2020. - Lie Down in the Grass (1984)
Lie Down in the Grass is the first solo album by singer -songwriter Charlie Peacock . It was released in 1984 on Word Records' Exit label. The Exit Records label was specially made from Word Records that featured Christian alternative rock acts like Peacock, The 77's, Vector (from which Peacock was a member before going solo) and many others based in Sacramento, California. From 1982 until 1985, the label's releases were distributed exclusively to the Christian market via Word, Inc. A&M Records handled the mainstream distribution in 1985. In 1986, The album was picked up by Island Records for distribution until Exit Records folded the following year. CCM Magazine ranked Lie Down in the Grass at number 67 in their 2001 book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music . The album was, in some ways, a head of its time. Featuring musicians from other Exit acts The 77's and Vector (Aaron Smith and Jimmy Abegg, both would go on to play on Rich Mullins ' Ragamuffin Band), Peacock delivered accessible melodies in a sophisticated format that challenged the listener with layers of fun, off-beat surprises. Peacock wrote and produced the entire album himself. Highlights on Lie Down in the Grass include the title track, "One, Two, Three (That's Okay)," "Till You Caught My Eye" and "Love Doesn't Get Better." On the A&M release, new tracks "Young in Heart" and "Love Doesn't Get Better " replace the tracks "Watching Eternity" and "Lost in Translation" from the Exit release. The album was reissued in 1992 by Myrrh Records on CD. In 2014, a 30th anniversary expanded edition of Lie Down in the Grass was released and contains the entire original Exit album and 10 bonus tracks including the two A&M tracks and four different mixes of the title song among others. - Hope (2026) (Petra studio album)
Hope is the 21st studio album by the Christian rock band Petra . It was released on January 5, 2026 by Girder Music, first to digital download and streaming formats and to CDs a week later on January 12, 2026. It will be released on three color variant collector's edition vinyls in March 2026. The band produced the album themselves. Hope is Petra's first new release of all-new material in over 20 years, following up their 2003 album Jekyll & Hyde and their 2005 live album Farewell . Since their temporary split, incarnations have played reunion shows in the years and long-time members, guitarist and songwriter Bob Hartman and lead singer John Schlitt, have released a worship album entitled Vertical Expression under the name II Guys From Petra in 2007. In 2010, Hartman and former Petra members agreed to reunite to record the album, Back to the Rock , in the fall, with a subsequent world tour. The lineup featured Hartman on guitars, Greg X. Volz on lead vocals, Mark Kelly on bass, Louie Weaver on drums and John Lawry on keyboards. Under the name Classic Petra, it's the first time they have toured together since 1985 when they were promoting Beat the System . Flash forward to 2025 with the current Petra line-up of Hartman, Schillt, Lawry, Greg Bailey on bass guitar and Christian Borneo on drums. Hope was preceded by its lead single and lyric video "Deliver Us," which was released digitally on September 26, 2025. Initially, Petra did not have the intention of releasing the song as a single, however, they decided to release it because they felt that "with recent events the time is urgent." "Deliver Us" is centered around the idea that "our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the forces of darkness." Girder Music noted that the timing of Hope 's release "could not be more significant" because of being released at a time when "the world feels fractured, shaken by tragedy, and desperate for truth." Girder Music named specific events, in particular the assassination of Charlie Kirk, an American political activist, which they noted as a "reminder of our nation's division and unrest." The album was intended to bring hope and "fierce reliance on God's deliverance" in spite of the "chaos and fear." "Deliver Us" has topped the Christian Rock chart by ChristianRock.Net . Hope features ten powerful tracks that explore faith, perseverance, repentance, redemption, and trust in God’s promises. From the hard-hitting opener “Filthy Lucre” to the triumphant closer “Deliver Us,” the album takes listeners on a journey that is both introspective and uplifting. Songs like “Kiss the Coals,” “Oxygen,” and “Skin in the Game” confront hard truths, while “We Rejoice in Hope,” “Miracle Maker,” and “There Will Still Be a Dawn” shine with encouragement and assurance. Tracks such as “Thorns” and “Looking Back” reflect on sacrifice, growth, and God’s faithfulness through every season of life. To accompany the CD, Hartman wrote a 45-page Bible study guide entitled Hope Bible Studies . It contain lyrics for all 10 songs, corresponding scripture, as well as thoughts and study from Hartman. It was created to deepen the album’s message and provide an even more meaningful experience. Track listing All songs written by Bob Hartman, except where noted. 1. Filthy Lucre -3:18 2.
