- Black and White in a Grey World (1985)
Black and White in a Grey World is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Leslie Phillips , released in 1985 on Myrrh/Word Records. Phillips earned her first Grammy Award nomination (under Leslie Phillips) for Best Gospel Performance, Female. The album was once again produced by Dan Posthuma and climbed to number 13 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Note: The cassette and LP versions did not include "Larger Than Life" and "Love Is Not Lost." However, these tracks were issued on vinyl in Australia. "Love Is Not Lost" would later be re-recorded for Phillips' 1987 album, The Turning . Both of those songs would be on the CD and digital editions. "Love is Not Lost" appears on the Word Records music sampler Take 'Em With You 4 on cassette from the CD version. The digital edition has replaced the original recordings of "You're the Same" with the home demo version and "When the World Is New" with the radio edit that has trimmed the 30 second intro. Both were featured on her 1988 compilation Recollection . You can listen to the original album recording on the YouTube link below this article. - Dancing with Danger (1984)
Dancing with Danger is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Leslie Phillips , released in the fall of 1984 on Myrrh/Word Records. Dancing With Danger contains "Strength of My Life" featuring guest vocals by former Imperals lead singer Russ Taff and giving Phillips her first number one hit on the Christian AC chart. The song is ranked at number 97 by CCM Magazine in their 2006 book The 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music . Phillips earned her first (and only) Dove Award nomination as a songwriter for Song of the Year for "Strength of My Life" in 1986. Dancing with Danger continues her contemporary pop rock sound from her 1983 debut album Beyond Saturday Night with production by Dan Posthuma. Phillips has written all ten songs. The album peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Top Inspirational Albums chart in early 1985. In 1991, Dancing with Danger was re-issued on CD with remastered remix versions of the title song and "I Won't Let It Come Between Us," replacing the original mix recordings and the solo recording of "By My Spirit" that was originally featured in a 1984 various artists compilation album By My Spirit: A Musical Gathering of Praise as a bonus track. The other version of "By My Spirit" is the well-known duet between Phillips and Matthew Ward of 2nd Chapter of Acts . - The Loving Kind (1998)
The Loving Kind is the fifth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Cindy Morgan . It was released on March 10, 1998 by Word Records. The Loving Kind is a concept album that focuses on the last eight days of Jesus Christ's life on earth, from the last supper to the betrayal to the trial to the crucifixtion and resurrection. The album is produced by Brent Bourgeois and Craig Hansen, the same production team responsible for Morgan's previous album Listen . The album was released in time for the Easter season. For the first time on this album, no songs were charted on the Christian CHR chart. All singles charted strictly on the Christian AC radio chart. The album's lead single, "Take My Life," climbed up to number one on the Christian AC chart. Also known as Mary Magdalene's song, it is sung from her perspective as she sings about her love and devotion to Him. Other song highlights include the title song, about Peter's denial of not knowing Christ and his betrayal, "Devil Man" is about Judas' guilt of getting Christ arrested and selling him to the Jewish leasers for greed, "Alive and Well," co-written with Michael W. Smith and Andrew Ramsay, is about the resurrection of Christ. Smith plays the piano on the track. "Praise the King" is a simple worship song. Prior to making The Loving Kind , the songs were inspired by Morgan's trip to Jerusalem and walking the same streets where Jesus walked. The album peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and in 1999, Morgan was nominated for a Dove Award for Songwriter of the Year. No music videos were made for this album, as she did on her previous releases. Track listing All songs written by Cindy Morgan, except where noted. 1. In the Garden -2:42 2. The March -3:58 3. - Listen (1996)
Listen is the fourth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Cindy Morgan , released on October 29, 1996 by Word Records. Listen was a departure from her dance/pop sound of Morgan's previous albums and moving towards a full adult contemporary sound in the singer - songwriter vein. Morgan also worked with new producers Brent Bourgeois and Craig Hansen to let her stretch vocally and lyrically to give it a band feel. In addition to Morgan playing the piano on the album, she also worked with studio musicians including producer Bourgeois. The title song was released as the lead single and topped the Christian AC chart. It's the first time Morgan topped that chart by herself, whereas she previously had number one songs on the Christian CHR chart. Four years earlier, Morgan hit number one on the Christian AC chart with the duet track "Somewhere Within the Heart" with Carman . The lyrics to "Listen" were written by Morgan's father Cova Morgan in the 1970s. A music video was made for the second single "The Master's Hand." The video is, in some ways, a sequel to her previous video "I Will Be Free" (from 1993's A Reason to Live ). Morgan wrote all the songs on the album. Listen was ranked at number 81 by CCM Magazine in their 2001 book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music . In 1997, Morgan released a concert video on VHS titled Listen...The Concert: An Evening with Cindy Morgan . It was recorded live at the Caffe Milano in Nashville, Tennessee with her band, members of the Nashville String Machine and backing vocalists. It was nominated for a Dove Award for Long Form Music Video of the Year in 1998. The album debuted and peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. - Under the Waterfall (1995)
Under the Waterfall is the third studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Cindy Morgan , released in the spring of 1995 by Word Records. The album was produced by Mark Hammond. The title of the album is taken from the track "Sweet Days of Grace." It is one of the first seven tracks on the album in which its theme is about the sweet embrace of God. Tracks 8 -11's theme is about the pathway of pain and tracks 12 and 13 are on love's refrain. Those three themes make up Under the Waterfall . The gospel-themed lead single and music video "I'll Stand" features CCM recording artist -songwriter Michael W. Smith on the piano. The album's overall sound is more adult contemporary but still has some of the upbeat pop/R&B sound from her previous releases. Even though she had songs on the Christian CHR chart, Christian AC started to embrace this album, particularly on the songs "Reaching With His Love" and "I Know You." Under the Waterfall climbed up to number 22 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. In 1996, Morgan was nominated for a Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year.
