- Say It Again (2002) (unreleased album)
Say It Again is the unreleased second album by American singer - songwriter Stacie Orrico . It was targeted for a release date of April 9, 2002. ForeFront Record, at first, postponed the release date, but when the mainstream label Virgin Record saw the mainstream potential with Orrico, ForeFront decided to cancel Say It Again 's release and rework her second album. The first single, "Bounce Back," was released to mainly Christian CHR radio stations. And even though at the time Say It Again 's album release was postponed before it was cancelled, it did chart on Radio & Records Christian CHR chart peaking at number 7. An enhanced CD single of "Bounce Back" was released in the summer of 2002, containing the radio edit of the song omitting the spoken intro from the album version, a remix version of "Genuine" (originally from her 2000 debut album ) and a 53-second medley of three songs that later appeared on Stacie Orrico : "Hesitation," "Strong Enough" and "I Could Be the One." The Billy Preston cover of "That's the Way God Planned It," titled as "That's the Way (God Planned It)," later appeared on Bishop T.D. Jakes' 2002 compilation album God's Leading Ladies . While reworking on her second album, Virgin and ForeFront dropped four tracks: "That's the Way (God Planned It)," "Truth," "Until I Find You" and "Star of My Story." When the Japanese Edition of Stacie Orrico was released, "Until I Find You" and "Star of My Story" were included. Four tracks differ from Stacie Orrico : "Bounce Back" was re-worked as an R&B song, very different from the Say It Again recording. "Maybe I Won't Look Back" has a slightly different track, including the bridge being performed as a rap verse by Orrico. "Security," unlike its commercial version, contains a rap verse from an uncredited Mat Kearney that was omitted from Stacie Orrico . Even though "I Could Be the One" did not appear on the album, it did appear on an 3-track extended play sneak peak of Say It Again that was released only in Europe with the original track listing at 3:55. The Stacie Orrico version trims the song by 17 seconds to 3:38. Say It Again had a partial track listing of ten songs and was not mastered. After the album was cancelled, pre-release copies for press were sent out and have since been appearing on eBay and leaked albums of Say It Again have surfaced on YouTube, which you can hear below this article. While leading worship at a Christian youth camp, the father of one of the children videotaped Watson's performance and sent it to a record company. Watson produced 23 number 1 singles in Christian radio—including "Friend of a Wounded Heart," "When God's People Pray," "Almighty," "Be in Her Eyes," "Watercolour Ponies," "More of You," and "Home Free" (which became the most played song on Christian radio in 1991).. - Natalie Grant
Natalie Diane Grant (born December 21, 1971 in Seattle, Washington) is an American contemporary Christian music singer and songwriter. She is a five-time Female Vocalist of the Year Dove Award winner, winning from 2006 to 2009 and 2012 and a nine-time Grammy nominee. In addition to garnering nearly 1 billion streams and multiple number #1 albums and singles on the Billboard Christian charts, she is also a respected author and philanthropist. She is the co-founder of Hope for Justice, a non-profit organization in the fight against human trafficking, which has 32 offices across 9 countries and 5 continents and has helped over 102,000 children in the last few years. Born and raised in Washington state, Grant enrolled at Northwest College (now Northwest University) in Kirkland, Washington, studying to be a schoolteacher. She reportedly figured that her musical gifts were merely for sharing with her local church until she learned how to find God's true calling for her life, and so switched directions and began a career in Christian music. Grant first started in contemporary Christian music when she auditioned for the travelling music group Truth. Later she moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue her solo career. There she signed with Benson Records in 1997 and began working on her self-titled debut which was released in 1999. She left Benson for Pamplin Music soon after and released the album Stronger in 2001. She then ended up at Curb Records after Pamplin folded, where she remained starting with Deeper Life in 2003. Awaken was her breakthrough success, in 2005. It was RIAA gold certified. More albums would continue to follow. Grant has since reported being unhappy with the way she was imaged by her early record label which marketed her partly on her looks and says of her first record, "It wasn't me at all either." However, she credits her early albums with having been necessary to her progressing and growing into an artist that takes control of such decisions, starting with her first widely successful album, Awaken . Another factor that was essential to her later success was a life-altering trip to India in 2004. Not only did this trip inspire her charitable pursuits, but it brought a new passion and direction to her music. Instead of focusing only on what song might be a hit, Grant reports that she now focuses on songs that will inspire, give hope, and motivate others to make their lives matter. In 2005, Grant also authored her first book The Real Me: Being the Girl God Sees , about her struggle with bulimia and how she overcame it. On October 23, 2012, Grant received the 2012 Bishop Ketteler Award for Social Justice from the Sisters of Divine Providence, who honored her for her work against human trafficking. Grant currently lives in Nashville with her Canadian husband producer Bernie Herms and their three daughters; Grace, Isabella and Sadie. - Amy Grant
Amy Lee Grant (born November 25, 1960) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. She began in contemporary Christian music (CCM) before crossing over to pop music in the 1980s and 1990s. She has been referred to as "The Queen of Christian Pop". As of 2009 she had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, won six Grammy Awards, 22 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, and her album Age to Age was the first Christian album to go Platinum. She was honored with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006 for her contributions to the entertainment industry and in 2022, she was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors. Grant made her debut as a teenager gaining fame in Christian music during the 1980s with such hits as "Father's Eyes," "El Shaddai" and "Angels." In the mid-1980s, she began broadening her audience and soon became one of the first CCM artists to cross over into mainstream pop on the heels of her successful albums Unguarded and Lead Me On . In 1986, she scored her first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 song in a duet with Peter Cetera, "The Next Time I Fall." In 1991, she released the blockbuster album Heart in Motion which became her best-selling album to date, topping the Billboard Christian album chart for 32 weeks, selling five million copies in the U.S. and producing her second No. 1 pop single "Baby Baby" and produced another three top 10 on Billboard Hot 100; “That's What Love Is For," "Every Heartbeat" and "Good For Me." She is the author of several books, including a memoir, Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far , and a book based on the popular Christmas song "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)" that she co-wrote. In the spring of 2023, Grant released two stand-alone singles "Trees We'll Never See" and "What You Heard." Both songs were her first new recordings since her bicycle accident and after she was inducted into the Kennedy Center Honors in 2022. On January 6, 2026, Grant released a brand new track entitled "The 6th of January (Yasgur's Farm)," along with a visual lyric video. The song explores themes of hope, healing and unity by contrasting the idealistic spirit of Woodstock (Yasgur's Farm) with modern-day unrest, questioning if society has lost its way while encouraging finding common ground and personal agency in uncertain times. It is the first release leading up her long-awaited new studio album, her first non-holiday release in over a decade. - Undone (2004)
Undone is the third studio album by the Christian rock band MercyMe , released on April 20, 2004 and was marketed and manufactured by INO Records. It was later distributed by Sony Music. The album was produced by Pete Kipley. Undone was recorded in seven studio with six in the United States and Abbey Road Studios in London, England in the United Kingdom. Following the success of MercyMe's previous studio efforts and their surprise crossover hit "I Can Only Imagine,” they were given significantly more resources to develop the album with. The band also brought in a sixth member, guitarist Barry Graul. Unlike the band's previous songwriting style, which was to write the lyrics first, they wrote the music for the songs on Undone before writing the lyrics. Musically, the album is a progression from the band's previous albums, adopting a guitar-driven pop rock and adult contemporary sound, while the lyrics are personal and convey Christian themes. While MercyMe was recording Undone in the summer of 2003, they were beginning to experience the unexpected mainstream success of "I Can Only Imagine"; although the band had been promoting their second album Spoken For , "Imagine" was from their first album Almost There . Undone received positive reviews from critics, with many praising the album's lyrics, mainstream appeal, and improved production value from their first two albums, although some felt the album was too similar to the band's previous works. Three singles ("Here with Me," Homesick" and "In the Blink of An Eye") were released in promotion of Undone , all of which topped at least one Christian chart format. "Here with Me" and "Homesick" also achieved success on mainstream radio, reaching the Top 10 on the adult contemporary radio charts by way of Curb Records. Undone gave MercyMe their first chart topper at number one on the Billboard Top Christian Albums and it debuted and peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200 Albums charts. The album was Gold certified just eight months later in December 2004, giving them their third gold-selling record by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). To accompany Undone , MercyMe also released a live DVD entitled MercyMe Live , with performances from this release and their previous albums, plus covers of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" and U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name." There's also a extra disc on DVD which contains some extras like interviews, bonus footage and more. MercyMe Live was certified Gold at the same time as Undone in December 2004 and going Platinum in 2008. In 2005, MercyMe was nominated in four categories at the 36th GMA Dove Awards, winning only Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year. - Spoken For (2002)
Spoken For is the second studio album by the Christian rock band MercyMe , released on October 1, 2002 by INO Records and originally distributed by Word Records and Word Music Group. The album was produced by Pete Kipley. MercyMe and producer -musician Pete Kipley team up once again to create Spoken For , their follow-up to their 2001 debut release Almost There with the album's song "I Can Only Imagine" still getting Christian radio airplay and making its way to mainstream and country radio. Spoken For musically represents a shift in the band's musical style, with critics variously identifying it as roots rock, pop rock, or adult contemporary. Lyrically, the album focuses on worship and the concept of Christians as being "spoken for" by God. The album was recorded in six studios in the United States including three in Texas, where the group currently resides. Three singles were released in support of Spoken For ; the title track, which peaked at number one on the Radio & Records Christian AC and INSPO charts, "Word of God Speak," which spent a record 23 weeks at the top of the Billboard Christian Songs chart and "The Change Inside of Me," which peaked at number eight on the Radio & Records Christian CHR chart. "Word of God Speak" was another surprise radio hit which used very minimal instruments with just lead singer Bart Millard's vocals, MercyMe keyboardist Jim Bryson and strings and the song lasting over three minutes. Lyrically, the song reflects on the idea that it is impossible to speak of an infinite God with a limited vocabulary. In addition to being named the number one song of 2003, it was the number song of the 2000s by Billboard magazine. "Word of God Speak" was released as a CD single, coupled with their Almost There smash "I Can Only Imagine" in 2003. Spoken For debuted and peaked at number two on the Billboard Top Christian Albums and at number 41 on the Billboard 200 Albums charts. Although not as big a seller as Almost There , Spoken For , nevertheless, was Gold certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) a year later in 2003, giving MercyMe back-to-back gold records. At the 34th GMA Dove Awards in 2003, MercyMe was nominated for four Dove Awards including Song of the Year for the title song and Group of the Year. They would win a year later in 2004 at the 35th GMA Dove Awards where they won Group of the Year and Artist of the Year. The track "Word of God Speak" won Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year, with the former awarded to Millard and Kipley. It was MercyMe's second Song of the Year title to win after "I Can Only Imagine" two years prior. Track listing All songs written by MercyMe and Pete Kipley, except where noted. 1. - Almost There (2001)
Almost There is the national debut album by the Christian rock band MercyMe . It was released on August 14, 2001 and thus began a long association with their record label INO Records (later renamed Fair Trade Services). It was originally manufactured through M2 Communications and, at the time, was distributed by Word Records and Word Music Group. The album was produced by musician and songwriter Pete Kipley. Almost There was recorded at three studios in the United States: Ivy Park, The Indigo Room and Paradise Sound and at IBC Studios, which was located in London, England, United Kingdom. Kipley produced and programmed the record, while Skye McCaskey and Julian Kindred engineered the album. Salvo mixed a majority of the songs on the album at Cool Springs Studio with the exception of "In You," which was mixed by Shane Wilson. Strings were recorded by the Paltrow Performance Group. After releasing six albums as an unsigned band, MercyMe decided to pursue a record contract because it became too difficult to sell albums, book shows, and manage themselves. The band was assigned to work with Kipley, who had not produced a major project before. Four songs on the album had previously appeared on their self-released albums; the rest were newly recorded songs. Critics have characterized the music on the album as contemporary worship and pop rock, with a more radio-friendly sound than the band's self-released albums. The lead single "Bless Me Indeed (Jabez's Song)" performed poorly on the Christian AC chart where it only reached the Top 30. But it was the second single, "I Can Only Imagine," that propelled MercyMe to the top of the charts. It was their first number one song on Radio & Records Christian AC chart and peaked at number 15 on the Christian CHR chart in 2002. The song's impact was felt not just in America but the whole world. It was written based on lead singer Bart Millard's personal feelings about his father's death, as he was abusive to Millard and his mother in his younger years. After Bart's father and mother divorced, Bart lived with his mother and has kept in contact with his father, then was later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Bart's father started to make amends with his son as his cancer started to get worse. Bart's father passed away in 1991 when Bart was 18 years old. "I Can Only Imagine" also charted on the Billboard charts in 2003 where it crossed over to mainstream radio by way of Curb Records, a first for a contemporary worship song. It topped Billboard 's Hot Christian Songs chart in 2018, when it was the subject of a Christian motion picture of the same name based on Millard's life story of his early years leading up to forming his band MercyMe. Plans for a third single were canceled when MercyMe opted to work on their next album Spoken For . "I Can Only Imagine" originally was recorded on their 1999 independent release The Worship Project . Thanks to the success of the track, Almost There topped on both the Billboard Top Christian Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts within the next two years in 2002 and 2003, while on the Billboard 200 Albums, it peaked at number 37. The album was the group's first gold certified album in 2002, then selling platinum a year later in 2003. By 2005, it went double-platinum. As of 2018, Almost There has been certified three-times Platinum selling over 3 million copies by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Their single for "I Can Only Imagine" was their first gold seller and by 2022, it has sold over 5 million digital copies, thus being certified platinum five times. In 2006, a double disc Platinum Edition of Almost There was issued with the second enhanced CD containing three versions of "I Can Only Imagine:" the original independent release from The Worship Project , an acoustic version and a live performance at The Door in Dallas, Texas, plus interviews about the history of the band and a music video of "I Can Only Imagine." At the 33rd GMA Dove Awards in 2002, MercyMe won their first Dove award for Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year for "I Can Only Imagine," while the song itself took the top prize for Song of the Year and its writer, lead singer Millard, won Songwriter of the Year. CCM Magazine ranked the song at number four in their 2006 book The 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music . NOTE: Amy Grant was originally given rights to record "I Can Only Imagine" as a single, but gave the rights back to MercyMe in 2001. Grant later released her own version, re-titled "Imagine," pairing it in a medley of the hymn " Sing the Wondrous Love of Jesus" for her 2002 release Legacy...Hymns and Faith .
