  • Washes Whiter Than (1979)

Washer Whiter Than is the third studio album by the Christian rock band Petra . Released in 1979, amidst major line-up changes that saw all but one of the founding band members leave. It was the first album to be released on the newly formed Star Song Records label. Word Records would distribute this and future releases up until 1986. Washes Whiter Than is produced by George Atwell. The album features a more mellow style when compared to the band's two previous efforts. Part of the reason for this is that the group wanted to get away from the controversy surrounding the hard rock style of their earlier releases. The softer material on this record achieved greater airplay on Christian radio stations than had their previous albums, particularly on the song "Why Should the Father Bother?" giving them their first Top Ten hit on the Christian radio charts. The song "Yahweh Love" has a little bit of a disco style. This is also the first release to feature singer Greg X. Volz as an official band member. Musician Rob Frazier, who later went on to have a solo career, is also featured as lead vocalist in several of the songs, as well as playing most of the instrumentation together with founder Bob Hartman. NOTE: the album was reissued by Star Song Records on a 2-on-1 CD package together with 1981's Never Say Die . The songs "(Couldn't Find Love) Without You" and "Magic Words" were cut from this edition to save space, but on this one, you will hear the entire album with the YouTube link posted below. • Come and Join Us (1977)

Come and Join Us is the second studio album by the Christian rock band Petra , released in 1977 on Word Records. The album is produced by Austin Roberts. Come and Join Us continues with a style similar to the one on their previous album, which is something between country and southern rock. However, the music is more rock-oriented, and the lyrics show more depth. Also - like their previous album - there is no lead singer per se. Instead, the lead vocals are handled by guitarists Bob Hartman and Greg Hough and some guest singers. One of the guest singers is future lead singer Greg X. Volz who was featured on two songs. This album would be the final album Petra would record on Word's Myrrh label and Word Records overall. The band would return to the label more than ten years later. Come and Join Us also features the first recording cover of "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" as originally performed by the English rock band Argent with additional lyrics not found on the Argent recording in 1971. • Petra (1974)

Petra is the first studio album by the band of the same name , released in 1974 on Word Records' Myrrh label. The album is produced by Billy Ray Hearn. The style of the album is southern rock and country rock, influenced by mainstream rock bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eagles and The Doobie Brothers, which was the band's trademark during its first years. The band's debut is more raw than later Petra albums, lacking the refined production values of future releases. It was recorded on a limited budget of $1,000 during the span of two weeks. Nevertheless, this first record displays remarkable guitar technique with many dual guitar solos reminiscent of the Allman Brothers, Wishbone Ash, Thin Lizzy and other bands from the period who employed harmony leads. Unlike later Petra albums, lead vocal duties are shared by guitarists Bob Hartman and Greg Hough. Track listing All songs are written by Bob Hartman, except where noted. 1. • Charlie Peacock

Charles William Ashworth (born August 10, 1956), known professionally as Charlie Peacock , is an American singer, songwriter, pianist, record producer, and author. Peacock was born in Yuba City, California , and his father was a trumpeter and educator. As a youth he was inspired by the music of American jazz musician John Coltrane . After leaving California State University, Sacramento in 1976, Peacock began playing jazz piano in the band, The Runners. He met author Frank Kofsky at California State University and through him met various jazz artists such as Andrew Hill . In 1978, songwriter Stephen Holsapple recorded Peacock's vocal compositions and they began writing songs together. He began performing at Maurice's American Bar and his song "So Attractive" was placed with a music publisher. Vocalist and songwriter Sal Valentino asked Peacock to join his band and gave Peacock's music to his industry friends. In 1980 A&M Records signed Peacock for a demo recording with producer David Kahne . Peacock formed The Charlie Peacock Group with Erik Kleven (bass), Jim Caselli (drums), Darius Babazadeh (tenor saxophone) and guitarist, Mark Herzig . He also recorded with David Kahne at the Automatt and at Moon Studios with Stephen Holsapple during this period and those recordings became the album Last Vestiges of Honor , released in 1998. Peacock contracted with a production imprint company called Exit Records in early 1983. That year, he performed as a keyboardist and vocalist for Vector in the band's 1983 release Mannequin Virtue. From 1990 to 1999, Peacock produced over fifty albums in the Christian and gospel music genre and founded the record company re:think ( EMI /Sparrow) and signed the artists Sarah Masen and Switchfoot . Amy Grant 's 1991 single " Every Heartbeat " was co-written by Peacock, Grant and Wayne Kirkpatrick. He has co-written and produced songs and albums in the CCM market for artists like Geoff Moore , Margaret Becker , Out of the Grey and himself. On March 9, 2004, Peacock released Full Circle: A Celebration of Songs and Friends commemorating his 20-year anniversary as a solo recording artist. In 2005 Peacock released his first commercial jazz/improvisational music CD, Love Press Ex-Curio , short for Loves Pressure Exhibits Curiosity. According to jazz critics, "while Peacock has consistently pushed the boundaries of pop and gospel music by adding elements of alternative rock, dance music and jazz, he has never before delved into jazz as unabashedly and wholeheartedly as he does on Love Press Ex-Curio ." Peacock is married to his wife Andi and they have a son, Sam Ashworth, who like his father, is making a name for himself in the music business as an artist, songwriter and producer. • Everything That's On My Mind (1994)

Everything That's On My Mind is the fifth studio album by singer - songwriter Charlie Peacock , released in late 1994 on Sparrow Records. Peacock has written and produced the album himself. After the release of Love Life , Peacock took a couple of years off focusing on producing and writing for other artists like his label mates Margaret Becker and Out of the Grey , his participation on the Keith Green tribute album No Compromise singing "I Can't Believe It," which became a Christian CHR hit and produced the Coram Deo worship albums. Around 1992, his father Bill Ashworth passed away so Peacock dedicated the album to him, particularly on the track "My Father's Crown." In 1994, Peacock returned to the studio writing and producing Everything That's On My Mind . The album is more rock-oriented and takes a step back from the too-slick sound he has adopted since leaving Sacramento, California. The lead single "One Man Gets Around" is about the amazement of the fact that people all over the world know Jesus. It topped The CCM Update 's Christian CHR chart for two weeks and went Top 5 on the Christian AC chart. "Inside Out, Upside Down" is a rocking testimony to human ignorance and features backing vocals from Brent Bourgeios and Steve Taylor . Out of the Grey also got involved on the album with Scott Denté playing acoustic guitar on the tracks "Aim a Little Higher" and "Dear Exception" and his wife Christine Denté providing backing vocals on the track "William & Maggie." Everything That's On My Mind peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart in February 1995. In 1996, Peacock was the first artist to win in the new category Modern Rock/Alternative Recorded Song of the Year for the track "Monkey's at the Zoo" and winning Producer of the Year at the 27th GMA Dove Awards. On the CD version, after the end of the last track "Dear Exception," there is five minutes of silence and then after the five minutes there is a near 17-minute interview with Peacock. • Love Life (1991)

Love Life is the fourth studio album by singer - songwriter Charlie Peacock , released on October 24, 1991 by Sparrow Records. Peacock wrote the entire album and co-produced it with Rick Will. After the release of The Secret of Time , Peacock experienced his first real taste of mainstream success as a co-writer on Amy Grant 's #2 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Every Heartbeat" from her best-seller Heart in Motion that summer while recording Love Life . The album spoke candidly-but tastefully-about relationships, primarily those between husbands and wives. From the cautionary "Another Woman in Tears" to the steamy "Kiss Me Like a Woman," Peacock spoke truth in a way listeners had rarely heard on Christian radio. Some Christian bookstores refused to carry the album due to those songs' nature and subject matter. The first single "In the Light" became a Christian CHR smash topping that chart for 8 weeks and was a Top 20 hit on the Christian AC chart. Christian rap/rock trio DC Talk covered the song on their 1995 big seller Jesus Freak , even Peacock providing guest vocals at the end of the song, taking it to number one on the Christian CHR chart a second time. (A Christian hit radio first). "In the Light" was named as one of the 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music by CCM Magazine in 2006 ranking it at number 71. Peacock dedicated Love Life to his wife Andi Ashworth writing on the liner notes: " You've been a patient teacher regarding the ways of a woman, the path of honesty and the things of the heart. Thank you again and again." The album peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and was named as one of the 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music in 2001, ranking it at number 15, eleven spots higher than his 1990 album The Secret of Time on this list.
