- Charlie Peacock (1986)
Charlie Peacock is the self-titled second solo album by singer -songwriter Charlie Peacock . Released in the fall of 1986, it was Peacock's final album on the Exit Records label and distributed by Island Records. This was supposed to be Peacock's breakthrough album that was supposed to solidify his secular presence. Unfortunately that didn't work out. A&M Records bailed on the album and it eventually ended up on Island Records. Island was unable to properly promote the album so it didn't have any secular success. One of the stranger production ideas was to include a new recording of "Lie Down on the Grass" from his 1984 album of the same name . The beats and synth were perfect for the time and the album was easily as good as anything on the radio at the time. A music video was made for the track "Message Boy" in a slightly different remix form from the album version. The album was mainly produced by English record engineer Nigel Gray with Peacock writing and composing the entire album. Charlie Peacock contains the original recording of "Down in the Lowlands." Former Imperials lead singer Russ Taff would cover the song on his 1987 self-titled album . The 1986 recording of "Lie Down in the Grass" would appear on the 30th Anniversary Expanded Edition of Lie Down in the Grass as one of the bonus tracks. Charlie Peacock was remastered in 2020. - Lie Down in the Grass (1984)
Lie Down in the Grass is the first solo album by singer -songwriter Charlie Peacock . It was released in 1984 on Word Records' Exit label. The Exit Records label was specially made from Word Records that featured Christian alternative rock acts like Peacock, The 77's, Vector (from which Peacock was a member before going solo) and many others based in Sacramento, California. From 1982 until 1985, the label's releases were distributed exclusively to the Christian market via Word, Inc. A&M Records handled the mainstream distribution in 1985. In 1986, The album was picked up by Island Records for distribution until Exit Records folded the following year. CCM Magazine ranked Lie Down in the Grass at number 67 in their 2001 book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music . The album was, in some ways, a head of its time. Featuring musicians from other Exit acts The 77's and Vector (Aaron Smith and Jimmy Abegg, both would go on to play on Rich Mullins ' Ragamuffin Band), Peacock delivered accessible melodies in a sophisticated format that challenged the listener with layers of fun, off-beat surprises. Peacock wrote and produced the entire album himself. Highlights on Lie Down in the Grass include the title track, "One, Two, Three (That's Okay)," "Till You Caught My Eye" and "Love Doesn't Get Better." On the A&M release, new tracks "Young in Heart" and "Love Doesn't Get Better " replace the tracks "Watching Eternity" and "Lost in Translation" from the Exit release. The album was reissued in 1992 by Myrrh Records on CD. In 2014, a 30th anniversary expanded edition of Lie Down in the Grass was released and contains the entire original Exit album and 10 bonus tracks including the two A&M tracks and four different mixes of the title song among others. - Steve Camp
Steven J. Camp (born April 13, 1955) is an American contemporary Christian music artist and pastor. In the tradition of Martin Luther 's Ninety-Five Theses , Camp sent out his own 107 theses on Reformation Day (October 31), 1998, calling for a reformation in contemporary Christian music: calling Christian musicians to make direct, uncompromising music that confronts the world with the message of the scriptures. Born in Wheaton, Illinois , Camp was raised by Christian parents, and by five years of age he had confessed faith in Jesus . This greatly influenced his desire to serve God through his teenage years. As a young Christian, he created a close bond with legendary Christian singer/songwriter Larry Norman , who gave him advice concerning Camp's own singing and songwriting. In addition, he met the late Keith Green , who encouraged him to make a stronger commitment to Jesus and the ministry of music. Camp was divorced from his first wife prior to 2002. He remarried on June 19, 2009. He is unrelated to Jeremy Camp , a fellow Christian rock musician. Camp is now the senior pastor of The Cross Church in Palm City, Florida. Prior to becoming a conference speaker and lecturer, Camp was a popular contemporary Christian music singer-songwriter. In 1977, he signed a recording contract with Myrrh Records , releasing several songs as a solo artist. In 1983, Camp signed a contract with Sparrow Records , with whom he released six successful albums. On his first album, Fire and Ice , Camp paired up with Michele Pillar to sing "Love's Not A Feeling." In 1989, Camp released his 9th studio album, Justice , on which he recorded the AIDS themed song "Do You Feel Their Pain?" After Camp's contract with Sparrow ended in 1992, he signed with Warner Alliance , with whom he released two albums. On his 1993 release Taking Heaven By Storm , Camp teamed up with veteran keyboardist and songwriter Michael Omartian , and together they produced a series of radio hits in a single year, including a contemporary remake of "The Lord's Prayer." Later that same year, he released a worship-themed project titled Mercy in the Wilderness . After a five year absence, Camp returned with Abandoned to God in 1999 and Desiring God in 2002. Camp focused on pastoring his church in Florida, putting music behind. More than 20 years later, Camp returned to music with the release of a new digital album entitled Neighbors In An Age of Rage in the fall of 2024. - Petra
Petra is an American music group regarded as a pioneer of the Christian rock and contemporary Christian music genres and was, for many years, regarded as the "world's most popular Christian rock band." Formed in 1972 and founded by the band's guitarist and principal songwriter Bob Hartman, the band took its name from the Greek word for "rock." Though it disbanded formally in 2006, incarnations have played reunion shows in the years since and released an album called Back to the Rock in 2010 under the name Classic Petra featuring the 1980s line-up of former lead singer Greg X. Volz, along with Hartman, former bass player Mark Kelly, keyboardist John Lawry and former drummer Louie Weaver. In 2013, it reformed with a new drummer, Cristian Borneo, and recorded a new song titled "Holy is Your Name," before going back on tour. With a style initially similar to The Eagles and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Petra's sound evolved into a more energetic, driving rock sound in the early 1980s akin to Foreigner, Styx and Journey. Throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s, Petra was one of the world's most popular Christian rock bands, with each of its albums during that period selling hundreds of thousands of copies while the band sold-out arenas and regularly placed songs at the top of Christian radio charts. With its lyrics, music and style, Petra influenced numerous other artists at a time when Christian rock experienced strong opposition from many conservative pastors and churches. In more than three decades, the band experienced numerous lineup changes yet released more than 20 albums, two Spanish-language albums and three live albums, selling nearly 10 million records, winning four Grammy Awards and ten Dove Awards. Their concerts rivaled that of Amy Grant 's in popularity among Christian audiences. Petra was the first rock band inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the first Christian band whose memorabilia was included in the Hard Rock Cafe restaurant chain. As of 2025, Petra's current line-up consists of Hartman, Borneo, lead singer John Schlitt (since 1986), Lawry on keyboards (1984 - 1994, 2014 - present) and Greg Bailey on bass guitar (2001 -2010, 2014 - present). In September 26, 2025, Petra released a new single and lyric video "Deliver Us," which led to the release of a new full-length album entitled Hope , their first new release in over two decades. It was released in early January 2026.
