- Mirror Of Your Heart (1985)
Mirror Of Your Heart is a compilation album by Christian singer - songwriter Chris Christian , released on August 1985 by Home Sweet Home Records with distribution by Word Records. Originally released as a ten track collection on LP and cassette tape, Mirror Of Your Heart is a collection of, according to Christian, "my favorite easy listening songs that I hope will be used as a meditation tool to think on the things that really matter, our relationship with our Lord and our brothers and sisters in Christ. I hope it is a collection worthy to stay in your glove compartment and near your record player to be used to bring us all to a moment of introspective through in a fast, hurried, trivial world." The LP and cassette contains new tracks that begin on each side: the title song, which was the only single to be released to Christian radio and "Sing Hallelujah." "Mirror Of Your Heart" was written by Christian and singer - songwriter David Martin. The CD version contains four extra tracks: "Faith That Only Comes From You" (new track on the CD version), " Every Good and Perfect Gift," "Give Up Yourself" and "Lift Up His Name." Mirror Of Your Heart was reissued on CD jointly by Retroactive Records and Christian's record label Home Sweet Home Records on September 14, 2021, released as part of The Legend Series. All 14 songs have been remastered and contains a bonus track "I Don't Have a Prayer Without You," plus photos, lyrics and liner notes written by Christian himself on the CD booklet. - On the Way Up (1989)
On the Way Up is the seventh studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Leon Patillo . It was released independently on November 7, 1989 by Ocean Records, with distribution by Word Records. Patillo wrote, arranged and produced the album himself. Patillo is once again a "one-man band" as he played all the instruments, with keyboard and drum programming. The album's sound is more urban and less pop mixing gospel and R&B with touches of hip hop. The title song was released as the lead single to Christian radio, particularly to Christian CHR but the song or the album failed to generate any interest. Prior to On the Way Up , Patillo and his wife Jackie went through a divorce after nearly two decades of marriage and two sons, Gabriel and Marcel. He blamed the failure of his marriage on his own misplaced priorities, putting his ministry ahead of health and family. Patillo continued to record and tour independently in subsequent years. Patillo started a church in Long Beach, California and founded his own record label called Positive Pop. On the Way Up is currently out of print and is not available digitally. Patillo produced the album's eight tracks himself and Norbert Putnam produced the two tracks, "Isn't It Crazy" and "Blessed Are You." Patillo returns to music after a year and a half away, after the release of Love Around the World and his comedy album A Funny Thing Happened... . This was the last of Patillo's period albums of the 1980s. Brand New also has an updated sound, particularly on the upbeat title track, "I'm Brand New." The slowed-down ballad "Isn't It Crazy" was written by fellow CCM musician and songwriter Tim Miner. Both of the above-mentioned tracks were his final Top 10 hits on Christian radio. Brand New peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. This is also Patillo's last charted release. Track listing All songs written by Leon Patillo, except where noted. 1. A Funny Thing Happened...Classic Comedy & Liveable Lessons is comedy/spoken word album by Christian singer - songwriter Leon Patillo , released by Myrrh/ Word Records. It was released around May of 1986, just a few months after Patillo's vocal album Love Around the World . Patillo wrote in the liner notes on the vinyl's back album cover: "As I travel across the country singing and performing I generally take time to share a Biblical story (paraphrased of course!) People have often asked where they might find these stories on tape. So with your great encouragement, I have compiled this album. I hope it will help turn your mourning into laughter and cause your days to be filled with joy to the Lord. I've always thought my contribution to the world would be of a more serious nature, but I guess A Funny Thing Happened..." This was Patillo's only album to be released containing no new music. Just material of spoken word with comedic elements. It was recorded live in concert across the United States. Patillo even thanked Christian comedian Mike Warnke for his inspiration. Patillo wrote the material and produced the album. A Funny Thing Happened... did not chart and is currently out of print. It is not available for digital streaming or for purchasing. - Love Around the World (1985)
Love Around the World is the fifth solo album by Christian singer - songwriter Leon Patillo , released on November 14, 1985 by Myrrh/Word Records. Patillo produced the album himself with George Duke as executive producer on five tracks. Duke is best known as an American R&B musician and producer, who produced Deniece Williams ' number one 1984 hit "Let's Hear It For the Boy." Patillo's popularity in Christian and gospel music started to decline with this release. He was at his peak when his previous album, The Sky's the Limit , was Grammy and Dove nominated. Despite that, Patillo still managed a number one song on the Christian AC chart with its lead single "One Thing Leads to Another." The title song was also a Top 10 hit and a music video. American actor Gavin McCleod (TV's The Love Boat and The Mary Tyler Moore Show ) provided narration on the track "Up and Over." Patillo also does a cover of the the gospel standard "The Lord's Prayer" as the final track. Patillo plays all instruments on the album with some studio musicians added on some of the tracks. Love Around the World peaked at number 7 by spring of 1986 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. NOTE: in a unique marketing tool reminiscent of Phil Keaggy 's 1980 album Ph'lip Side , Love Around the World is presented with two covers. For its digital version, Patillo wearing a jacket is the current front album cover, where as the original front album cover is Patillo wearing a shirt. Each cover shows the five tracks on the lower bottom in small print and shows Patillo as producer one side and Duke as executive producer on the other.
